Water was very calm. I hyperventilated as soon as I hit the water and had to breast stroke for a while to catch my breath and calm down.
What would you do differently?:

Transition 1
  • 03m 31s
Comments:

Wet suit slowed me down, and I was out of breath, mostly from nerves.
What would you do differently?:

Not use cycling gloves.

Comments:

Haven't done much running. Legs felt really heavy for the first half of the run and I had trouble drinking at all during the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Walking

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough training in either the run or the bike. I should have warmed up for the swim. I think I can also cut a couple of minutes off my transition times with practice. Also, being my first race I was a little more conservative than I needed to be and could have gone harder on the bike portion.

Event comments:

My goal was swim without stopping, ride the entire time on the bike without coasting, and run the entire distance without walking. I achieved these goals and next year will work to improve my time on every leg of the race. Overall it was a very good experience and I count my first tri as a success!

Glad you had a good time at your first tri and considered it a success! And now you've got that pesky first race under your belt. I think that would've been a fun one to have as your first.
