It really puts a kink in a 18 week marathon training plan, very difficult to hit quality workouts 2 weeks out of the 50k, for me. Or sometimes I do, like get some quality in the week or 2 after, then I get sick and break down maybe 2-4 weeks after the 50k. So still working on how to do it myself. Of course, you also have the lead up to the 50k which you need to hit some longer runs, which screws up the training leading up to the 50k.
And you are talking a 50 miler.
I think 2 to 3 weeks of recovery after a 50 miler would be good. Go with the 3 probably. Then a nice 6-8 week build/peak to the marathon and a good taper. Think that is what I will do next year. |
