Subject: kidney question
anyone a nephrologist or urologist? anyone? has to be one in our tri-world somewhere...

My 17 yr old son has been having some issues - suspected a UTI - culture had ecoli present...returned after completing 1st round antibiotics 2nd culture also had ecoli, elevated nitrates and leucocytes? 2nd round of antibiotics and 3rd culture was clean. Dr. ordered renal ultrasound (yesterday) which showed "fullness of Rt collection system" ok wth is THAT and how worried do I need to be?

Tomorrow he is going for a CT urogram. oh what fun words I'm learning this week

any thoughts or insights are appreciated

Not a urologist but a doc.  My question would be why did they do an US if the culture is clean? To be honest not sure what fullness of the right renal collection system means....maybe a little hydronephrosis?  Radiologists always want another test.  Might be looking for a stone.   I can ask a urology friend if u like.  Pm me if  u want

Hi, I am not a doctor, It sort of sounds like kidney reflux may be causing this (vesicoureteral reflux.) The most common sign is a UTI. There can be a couple different causes, congenital.. a defect he was born with or a blockage, like a stone or crease causing urine to back flow back in to the kidney causing fullness because the urine isn't draining. Good job on staying on top of this... this can cause kidney scarring and kidney disease down the road if infections aren't treated. Sending positive energy your way.
