Subject: First timer from Singapore...
Afternoon all,

As Christmas/NY and 2016 is fast approaching I have taken a bold step in deciding many things in my life need to change. And the main one of these is my health.

I have therefore decided to throw myself into the world of triathlon...

Me...I have just turned 35, 182cm tall, weighing approx. 125kg. I love riding my mountain bike and was able to smash a 60km ride in sub 3 hours a couple of weeks back, even though I had not rode for some time, so this is definitely my strongest of the three legs...

My problems. 1) Swimming and 2) Running. Swimming - being technique and the thought of open water swimming, Running being my general size and walking posture causing some issues..

I know i need to throw myself into this but can also get overwhelmed and turned off by a pressurised full on approach.

I have signed up for two mini triathlons to get me going. Singapore in April (250m/10k/2.5k) and Bintan (750k/20k/5k) in May.

Any advice for a noob, any good triathlon shops in Singapore or trainers who can help with things like swimming coaching etc would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks in advance.
Mark

Hi Mark! From Indonesia here If you go to the SE Asia forum (way down the forums page, in Country Forums) I'm pretty sure we had a thread about tri gear in Singapore. I also have a ton of tri friends there you can connect with. Bintan is a great first-year triathlon to do!

Hi Mark!
Welcome to Beginner Triathlete! You sound very determined. You'll fit right in!

Check out our articles, particularly the beginner section, and then you can search for anything you want more information on later, and you'll probably find an article on that, too.

Grab a training plan and get started! You might also want to log your training in the training logs here so others can see how you are doing. For example, if you ask a question about your level of preparedness and someone goes to your log and sees you are only swimming 10 minutes per week, they can let you know that you probably need more time in that area.

I never imagined that 350 yards broken down into 7 REALLY long lanes would be so big! I gasped out loud and told Grady that maybe I had underestimated the swim.
