Subject: Training for a modified sprint with a 40km bike
Hi guys,

I am new to triathlons and have done a super sprint last year and a duathlon with 1km run, 24km bike then 5km run. I am entering the Jersey sprint triathlon this year which is 800m sea swim, 40km bike and 5km run. I was looking at doing a 16 week training plan but wondered if I should take the bike part out of an Olympic plan and follow the swim and run on a sprint raining plan. Any advice would be very welcome!! Thanks

Yeah....the OLY bike part is a good idea.

Now......have you swam in the ocean?

By asking the question, at least we know you have doubts that a bike program suited to get you through a sprint is going to be a bit light to get you off the bike comfortably for double that distance. That assumes, however, that you don't already have some depth of background in cycling. Just because you're on the beginner triathlete site doesn't mean you're necessarily a beginner in each discipline. ANYway... Yes, probably the best place to start is to incorporate the OLY bike plan into the otherwise sprint program, and do a lot of transition runs off the bike, especially the long ride days.

Now that ocean swim thing... ;^)

I'm not quite half way into my IM training. I just raced a sprint and on Monday I woke up and felt like I'd been drugged! Not sore, just incredibly fatigued.

This plan is designed to make you go faster. 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work. The maximum volume is around 10 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.
