Comments: Everything felt great. I was surprised at how even my splits were. Took a GU at the turn around, though I was expecting it a mile earlier. On the way back, I tried to pick up the pace ever-so slightly to catch a few people. Ended up passing 6 more people. I felt as though I could have pushed it a little harder on the way back, but I didn't want to explode and fall apart at the end. What would you do differently?: First, I need to make sure that I am near the front of the starting pack if there are not pace-based packs. I had to really exert a lot of effort to get around the initial crowd. I also need to start to doing tempo runs and speed work. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a turkey BBQ sandwich and some water. My legs were dying after a few minutes after the end, especially my calves. I should have stretched, but I was FREEZING! What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training for this distance. Event comments: I really love this distance. I hope that my first HIM will feel this good. I saw some of the local triathletes at the end. I have yet to introduce myself, but I know their faces. I really believe that I can hit my next half-marathon goal of 6 min./mile (~1:18 final time). Sub-6 splits would be amazing, but not this year. Last updated: 2007-02-26 12:00 AM

Woke at 5:00 AM. At a bowl a cereal and headed out for the race course at 6:00 AM, as they were going to shut down the roads at 7:00 AM. Arrived at brother-in-law's parent's rental cottage and hung out. Going into the race I really wanted to break the 1:30 mark and figured that I would be between 1:25 - 1:30.
None. I wanted to run a little to warm up, but I ended up hanging out with brother-in-law's family up until the start.
