Master 1557 Maine | Subject: Lucky Lancers Update Looks like everyone is getting rolling toward 100%. For those who don't know, this is a charity challenge, so we need to decide a couple of things. #1, people need to let me know what your pledge is (how much you will give if we lose). As I understand it, the rule would be to give the full amount of the pledge if you don't make 100% and if our team loses. If you make 100% in all three disciplines, but we still lose, you would give half of the pledge. Of course, it's all up to you, totally honor system. #2, any suggestions for which charity we as a team would give to? Personally, I would favor something like the Leukemia society's team in training, or maybe to some other BT'ers who are raising money (I'm thinking maybe Steve- who is raising money for a serious illness his wife is fighting). Just a couple of suggestions, I'm open to ideas. |

Master 1557 Maine | Subject: RE: Lucky Lancers Update I would have no problem applying my pledge to nytrigal's TNT fundraising. Of course, when we all kick everyone's butt in this challenge, we'll have to donate just out of the goodness of our hearts . |

Veteran 114 Jacksonville, Florida | Subject: RE: Lucky Lancers Update Since I don't know many people on here, I will go with the majority for the charity. I can put $20 as well. Another question. What happenes if there is a tie. 2 or more teams reach 100%. |

Master 1557 Maine | Subject: RE: Lucky Lancers Update We're 1/4 of the way through the month (that's 25% for some of the people from other teams who might be reading this). Currently, our average swim goal completion is 23%, average bike goal completion is 26%, and average run goal completion is 25%. Right on pace Lancers! Current swim studs include lacrossemomamy at 43% of goal and rgrbill at 29%. Bike honors are currently held by lingphd at 56% and nytrigal at 33%. Top runners include lingphd at 32% and bmax at 30%. Keep up the great work everybody. Lance is wearing yellow heading into the mountains. A good omen for team 7? |

Elite 2796 Texas | Subject: RE: Lucky Lancers Update I just wanted to post here to let you all know that I'm going to be out of the challenge effective today. I'm having knee surgery on Thursday, and I'm not sure when I can return to full training. I plan to swim as soon as possible, but biking is out for a while and running, well, that's another story. The details are in my log, but I figured I didn't want to put them out on this thread. I'm sorry I won't be competing along side you guys. Renee verified for me that my numbers will not effect the team's score. I was tempted to suck it up if that wasn't the case. You train hard. I'll be cheering you on and following all of your progress. Go Lancers! |

Veteran 112 Minnesota | Subject: RE: Lucky Lancers Update Go Lancers! He's back in yellow again . . . what a great race today. I've got a poster of Lance up in my bathroom to keep me motivated. Maybe I need it on the fridge so I can stay out of there! Don't get too worried about my lack of swimming hours at the moment. My coach just put me on what he calls a "reverse taper" for my half IM race on July 24. Basically I'll be cutting WAY back on the biking and running and swimming like a fool for the next week or so. Not too exciting for me since I don't really like to swim, but maybe I'll actually see some progress in the next 10 days in my swim. |

Elite 2706 Hurst, Texas | Subject: RE: Lucky Lancers Update Hey fellow Lancers. Got some slightly bad news today. Had an MRI done on my left knee yesterday, and just got the results. The good news is, I don't have an tear to my ACL, MCL or meniscus. The bad news is, I have osteoarthritis, reduced cartilage in the medial joint space, reduced cartilage in the patellofemoral joint space, and some pretty hefty swelling/fluid. The doc said I need to skip the race this weekend, and cut my running down to no more than twice a week, 3-4 miles max per run. He said I can still bike basically as much as I want, as long as it doesn't cause problems. He said the remainder of my races this year (other than this weekend) are spaced out enough that I should be ok, as long as I train smart. With the reduced running regimen, and the use of anti-inflammatories and a glucosamine supplement, I should be able to gradually increase my running frequency and distance. He said the marathon in January is still very much a possibility, but it will depend on how the next couple of months go. Basically, this is a result of being way too fat for way too long, and my body just isn't ready to run 4-5 times a week yet. Too much pounding on a joint that is meant to be a hinge rather than a shock absrorber. It could be much worse, but it is still depressing. Obviously, I will not meet my running goal for us this month. I will do my best to meet the biking and swimming, though. Edited by OldAg92 2005-07-22 1:54 PM |

Master 1557 Maine | Subject: RE: Lucky Lancers Update Glad it's not a more serious injury Brandt... All right team, here's what we've got with 9 days left in the month:
So we're at 60% overall. And congrats to lacrossemomamy for hitting the first 100% mark. Keep working hard everyone! |

Veteran 114 Jacksonville, Florida | Subject: RE: Lucky Lancers Update Here is what I have for the final 9 days that will put me over the 100%, or very close. 3 x 50 min Bike = 150 mins 4 x 35 min Swim = 140 mins 3 x 30 mins Run = 90 mins That's 6.3 hrs of exercise in 9 days, so with a rest day, which I don't like, that's still less than an hour a day. I can do this!!! |

Elite 2706 Hurst, Texas | Subject: RE: Lucky Lancers Update Does walking count towards our run total for July? I just talked to my doc, and he cleared me to walk as much as I can tolerate, so I would like to try to get my run goal met this month through a combo of walking, and my twice weekly run. If walking can count towards my mileage, I'm still within reach of my goal. Let me know! |

Elite Veteran 781 | Subject: RE: Lucky Lancers Update I'm not even on your team but Old Ag, I vote walking=running. I also vote aqua jogging=running. Meet your goal if you can. Don't if you can't (and request a waiver so you aren't gigged), but DO NOT HURT YOURSELF. This is a fun, summerly, lazy, hazy days of summer type of challenge; nothing serious going on here. Just make sure you're up to the River Cities challenge. Can't wait to meet you. |
