Subject: Did I just get a free Treadmill?

I was looking to get a treadmill. Even posted here I bought one. But then sears had the one I wanted on back order.

Well i had went ahead and called norditrack directly. then they said my card declined. I was like oh I have to cancel the sears order. So I cancelled that order. THEN, I decided NOT to purchase the t-mill and just join the YMCA. norditrack said that if I wanted the t-mill to call back and have the decline taken off the card.

I NEVER DID.

Now i just got an email saying your treadmill has been shipped!!!!

Just checked the debit card. NO CHARGE!!!

At the very beginning of this process the set-up company had emailed me and said that they had me on schedule and to email them when i was ready. I knew at that point I wasn't buying the t-mill. So I didn't tell them that just asked if they saw an order for me in the system. They said yes. I left it alone.

DID I JUST GET A FREE TREADMILL????!!!!

what do I do??

my friends say nothing. lol

p.s. I have a tracking number and EVERYTHING.

p.p.s. I sent my mother to go sit at my house and wait because it says delivery is today.

You call the company and let them know about the mistake. Kind of a PITA but you gotta do the ethical thing.

Swap the treadmill to the YMCA in exchange for about 5 years' worth of monthly dues. Obviously.

"I mean who thows a shoe....honestly....that hurt" (name that movie)

As a side note.....if you can look at/use the treadmill everyday and not feel guilty about it, then keep it. If not....return it.

Just keep an eye on the credit card....they might realize their mistake and charge you for it down the road.

Enjoy your runs........

The company will find out after an audit and you will end up being charged. You will look like the good guy if you let them know ahead of time. Also.. think of the Karma. You don't want bad Karma on a Treadmill. That could be bad.

With all due respect -- and I am NOT casting judgment here -- but not informing the company and/or returning the treadmill is stealing, regardless of who's to blame for the mistake.  If you inform the company after it's been delivered and they still don't do anything about it, well, then it's their problem, IMHO.

But you've got to take the first step.

i had that movie on the tip of my fingers and just forgot.

Dagnabit.

I'm torn. Well, i'm going to see if they actually TRY to deliver the darn thing first. No sense in getting worked up if a notice never shows up.

I'm stalling on deciding whether to refuse or go ahead and except the machine knowing I'll be charged.

Austin Powers (but someone already beat me to it)

Back to the original topic... A friend had a simliar thing happen to him w/ a TV. He bought it and then got a price guarantee. Well they credited him the original amount and forgot to charge him the reduced price. He called and they had no record of the sale at all. He was suppossed to go to the store and resolve it there, but the store chain went out of business two weeks later (Chapter 9), so he kept it and never heard from them again

I'd call the company back and try and resolve it. If they still dont have a record, then you can say you tried. But for me, Id feel guilty every time I used it if I didnt try and do something (Karma Police). But you shouldnt have to pay to ship it back, they're mistake, not yours.

I would let them know that you received the treadmill, but in person.  Hopefully the good karma will allow them to give you a huge discount.  I doubt it, but it is worth a try.

What will you do if the set it up for you (after opening your unlocked front door) put the treadmill mat down that came free with your free treadmill, have a cold water bottle sitting in the holder when you get home from work, and the radio tuned into your favorite station blaring so you don't feel the burn of doing intervals on the dreadmill?

jump on it. run my easy 3 miler today.

then return it.

DUH

and i can't return it in person. I mean, a. i don't know where norditrack headquarters is. b. I don't think walking to their corporate office would do me much good. ESPECIALLY if I'm towing a treadmill.

I say make every attempt to let them know that you haven't been charged and then if you still don't get charged it's yours. My buddy got a free wetsuit after he and his wife called the company 2 times and sent 1 email. I figure if they don't get it after 3 attempts to reconcile the shipment with the payment then it's their loss.

My wife bought Lifecycle around the time we started dating. She called them after she had it for a month or so and told them she did not want it. There was a 90 day money back guarantee. They credited her account with a refund and told her they would arrange for a shipping box and pick from UPS. Box and UPS never showed. She called them back and they said they would just call it a draw and to keep the machine. I had the pleasure of moving the da**ed thing for the next 15 years until we gave it to a friend.

You might get just as lucky, who knows. But you really should at least call them so as not to have it come back at you when you might least be able to afford it.

I'm another vote for making some good faith effort to let sears or norditrack (whoever sent you the email about the treadmill being shipped) what happened.  Keep it or return it, it's up to you.  But if you want to keep it and also not lose your self respect, at least try to get things cleared up. Karma will get you if you don't. Maybe the next time you screw something up on the job, no one bothers to help correct it and you get canned.  Or the next time you order something, you get charged and never get the product (even though their records say otherwise) and you lose a chunk of change.

But if you have tried several times, with no result, it's all yours.
