Subject: Crude behavior at Tri-ing

(begin rant)
I found it pretty disgusting to have to watch three different racers urinating quite openly on the course yesterday at Tri-ing, each of whom was wearing the same club team jersey.  And my wife found it pretty rude that two other racers with that same club jersey sat near the transition area complaining at great length and volume about how the "amateur racers" there were "ruining the race" and should have just "stayed home".

I found it even more disgusting that the club represented by these several "athletes" was given the "Team Spirit" award.  Apparently "team spirit" does not include sportsman-like behavior.
(end rant)

It's kind of gross... I can see if it was a HIM or something that was weighted... but give me a break!  I ran past one of them and said some "choice" words.   It's a charity race!  Many of those "amateurs" will start their triathlon involvement with this race, keeping the sport going.

Tri-ing For Children's was my first triathlon last year and the only reason I did it was because it's for a good cause.  If I would have heard that, I probably would have not stayed involved.

Bastages!

As to the first thingI wonder if they realize without the "amateur racers" there wouldn't be enough people to have a race.  It bugs me when people take themselves so seriously they think it's ok to badmouth other people.

As for the urinating, eeeww!  Just eeew!

powder blue and yellow?  hopefully nothing with donkeys stamped on em, though knowing the crew i wouldnt expect that.  why do i think of the stan gable speech to ogre about the nerds ruining the alpha beta way of life when i picture the conversation in transition?  maybe these upper crust types are better off not attending local tris that are made possible by local triathletes attendance?  sorry, there is a demographic of douchery within the tri population that i really dont have time for and that is the my sh#t dont stink crowd.  sadly, i feel sometimes i gravitate towards that when it comes to race/training ettiquette issues i.e. riding correctly on group rides and ipods in races but i am still proud of finishers of all levels and appreciate their own personal struggles to finish, whether fast or slow.  dunno.  from a donkey standpoint, one of the things i would like to incorporate is a code of donkey ethics.

i suppose technically i do have a question on the peeing thing though- is it the whipping it out or is peeing on the bike or run ok?  i personally dont in front of crowds, but in the sport, pee happens sometimes.

these folks weren't just letting their bladders relax on the bike, they were "whipping it out" roadside and squatting in open fields.  It's not like there weren't public restrooms available adjacent to the course.

No, they weren't Donks - i love the Donks!  I'm a wannabe Donk - but i live too smack dab in the middle of nowhere to be able to get involved with a team, unless i want to be a "Donkai of One."  Maybe i should start a local chapter...?

Donkey is intergalactic.  There are practicing Donkeys as far away as the UK.  If/when there are chances to train or race with the group, The Pace is always there for other Donks.  EEEEAAWWW!!!

Dude, you're less than an hour from the donkey stronghold of New Berlin, and just over an hour from "Milwaukee West" - aka Madison. No way are you too far away to be a donkey.

It's one thing to expect people to educate themselves on the rules and proper etiquette for racing (every one who wants to participate in a sport should know the rules of said sport).  It's something else to be a complete a$$hat just because you're super speedy and think that anyone who walks during the run portion or doggy paddles the swim doesn't deserve to be on the course.  Hell, most pros I've seen behave better than that.   You, Joe, are far from being an a$$hat.

I  my donkeys.  They rock.

You mean I can't get up in their face when they act like that?  Ok.  I'll make sure to take off the Donkey gear first before they see me, or will the code of ethics still hold even with the Donkey gear off?

I had a great day with my great Donkey friends (and Roy, donkey to be jolly ranchered??...who seemed to melt into the crowd at the finish line...where the heck did you go!!) and think about it. Look at last weeks SOR and all those rocking fast times all of you halfers posted!! The Nation is both fast, follows the rules...and Ive never heard anyone speak badly about us!!! YAY us!!!
