Got Wahoo? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Seems to me there is a lot of resentment towards the chipotle and the changing tire threads and those who post to them. I have to say, all this talk, specifically certain personal nastiness concerning anyone who posts or originates to these threads, smacks to me of jealousy and cowardice.
If you don't like the threads, don't read them. Or failing that, don't post to them when you do read them. I see a lot of you who never originate a thread... ever. Pretty damn easy to sit there and critique people who contribute their own personality to the site on a daily basis, when you have a whopping 150 posts over a year. Where is your contribution? Where are your mildly interesting threads that no one is posting to because of chipotle? What, exactly, is your jsutification to get so mean because someone posts threads you are not interested in?
While I understand Renee's frustration because her thread got hijacked (it's certainly happened to me plenty of times - sometimes by Renee), it seems to me some folks (re: lurkers) find it damn convenient to come out and complain, mock and taunt from the protection of Renee's anger. My question... where are you when Renee is not there to act as point and you don't have her caustic comments to serve as your umbrella of courage? You're tired of hearing it...? Fair enough. Your point is made. Still, I'm curious... when were you attacked on these threads? Which posts to these threads has ever mocked you? I think most of you are jumping on the band wagon and overall you're spouting mean spirited vitriol jsut to pile on. Smacks of inadequacy and fear to me.
If you want to see something on the threads other than chipotle, post it. Otherwise, do what you do best and Lurk. Welshy |

Giver ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Um...what Welshy said...sort of. I don't think I'd be that harsh, but Welshy makes some good points. If you're sick of certain topics, avoid them. Realize that threads get hijacked. It's just the nature of the beast. But most of all...chill out! No one's done anything maliciously. Renee got pissed off, but you know what...she's Renee. If she gets pissed off, more power to her. She's got enough cache here to justifiably vent a little. Also, nothing wrong with lurkers. I'm not for pecking orders. Anyone, IMO can post what they want. But realize that some of us feel a bit protective when it comes to certain others of us. So if you rag on someone, know that you may get some back. This forum rocks, and none of us want to see it turn into something that sucks. I think if we all step back, take a deep breath and just calm down, it'll all be ok. Anyone for a big ol' BT love fest tomorrow? I think we could use one. Here's a suggestion: everyone start a thread called "I like <insert BTer's name> and this is why." I'll start... |

As for Renee it seems every time she gets her panties in a wad she has to come on here and pick a fight to make herself feel better. Its an internet forum, if it has that much meaning in your life then get a new hobby! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This is the way that I see it. Have you ever been to a party where one person is drinking more than the others and is acting out? At first, it's pretty funny and everyone laughs. But then, after a while, as the person get more drunk and keeps telling the same old stories over and over and over, then it gets obnoxious. At that point, the host has to make a choice to either find someone to take the drunk home, or risk having all the other guests leave the party (maybe find another one) as they seek to get away from the annoying drunk. As I see it, some of the topics here reached the annoying drunk stage and a few people would like to arrange for a ride home, so to speak. As for Renee, 95% of the time, I strongly disagree with her opinions, but she is obviously so incredibly intelligent and very eloquent in the way she expresses her opinion and I have a huge amount of respect for that. We don't have to agree as long as we can talk respectfully with each other. Don't you think that if everyone agreed with everyone all the time, then the world would be a pretty boring place? (and a lot of cable network anchors would be out of a job!) I don't think anyone wants to hurt anyone's feelings here (at least I don't). I would just like to change the subject somewhat. And bless Run4yrlif's heart. He's trying to get everyone to play nice in the sandbox. And that's why I like him! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Just my 2 cents from a semi-lurker: While this is a public forum, sometimes I found it confusing and distracting to see it flooded with threads with inside jokes and stories related to the same few people. I don't follow them much, and when I do read them, I got really confused. For example, I thought "changing a flat" is an educational topic about bike tire maintenance, and I found I didn't understand a thing from those postings. I maybe a little uptight and shouldn't take it too seriously in "My Cup Of Joe". Thanks for reading. |

Got Wahoo? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I unerstand and agree with your point, DK. I can see where some of the frustration comes from. My only issue is folks getting nasty about it and coming out of the wood work to pile on. As someone who has been here since back when there were just a few people on the site and 100 total was a milestone, I really appreciate what Ron has done and is continueing to do - and that includes growing and diversifying the site's subscribers - lurkers or active posters. |

THIS is why we need a faq! Ron? Celeb...I totally get what you're saying. I hate the thought of anything that approaches beingexclusionary (is that even a word?). So on the one hand, I like the inside-jokishness of this site, but on the other hand, I hate to think it may be off-putting (let me clarify that...I don't mind if it's off-putting if you get the joke, but if people are just plain confused, well that's no good). So maybe a faq, or if you don't get something, maybe just PM somebody. I think I can say with almost near certainty that there's no one here that wouldn't mind doin' some 'splainin' if asked. |

![]() There have been a few occations where my threads have been hijacked, and, ya, it feels a little exclusionary - like, oh well, I guess this has nothing to do with me anymore. But then I realize that it doesn't really matter anyway. Someone used the analogy of a drunk at a party...well, I figure that when my thread gets hijacked, the drunks are running the party & appear to be having a great time! Have at it. I'll drive home sober knowing that at least someone had a good time. As for Chipotle, I've never eaten there, so it's very easy for me to ignore it. When I first joined BT at the time Welshy had posted several Odes to... Those were very entertaining! He taught me what an Athena was. That was cool. |

![]() | ![]() Hey, this is the OT forum, as long as this kinda of insanity stays in the OT forum, I could care less. I lurk here because it can be entertaining. What really get's my goat is when OT stuff creeps into our other forums. One thing that stuck with me tho, was the comment made about only posting 150 posts a year. This isn't a contest to see who can post the most, altho one might think it is. I try to post only when I think I have something at least somewhat valuable to share, whether that be here or in another area of BT. I guess my point it, more posts aren't necessarily better. |

Agreed, on a lot of boards Mods will actually lower your post count if they think you're just posting to get the count up to get a higher "rank". Some folks are conversational, some aren't. To each their own. bts |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Here's my take on it. Cliques - A couple of weeks ago, my wife was complaining about cliques among our neighbors and friends. I pointed out that we had made no effort to invite those families over to our house and so she had no complaint. Since anyone can post any time, there's a common assumption that you don't need to wait for an invite to join "the group", whatever you perceive that to be. I jump in whenever I see an opening. But for people who want to debate the merits of Limp Biskit - I'll never be part of "that group" and that's just fine with me. Inside jokes - They do need to be retired after they cease to be funny, but that's a judgement call. Perhaps we could exercise better judgement. I understand the frustration of people who see the same material for weeks on end. However, if you take away all the jokes that involve "inside" information about fellow BTers, you lose a lot of closeness and damn good jokes. Off Topic Forum You don't see many "topics" in the off topic forum. It's become more of a shoot the bull session for people bored at work. Yup, don't read the personal chit chat if you're bored by it. I don't bother with about 2/3 of the threads myself. But there are times when I've been really down, and been lifted up by some hilarious exchange on here. Cheers to people who make me laugh. Cheers to people who vent (I am in a foul mood myself this week. I started watching Ocean's Eleven and was enjoying it very much when I had to shut it off and listen to my wife bitch about some non-issue for six f***ing hours) Cheers to people who post serious issues. Cheers to hijacks. It's all part of the fun. Tri Forum Although I've been posting mostly in the off topic forum lately, I always read the Tri forum. I love the positive attitude and learn something new every week. I usually don't have the knowledge to contribute something useful, but be assured, I am always implementing other people's great advice. It rocks and will always be the king forum on this site. Based on issues from the OT forum, I feel safe in saying it's the only common tie we have. |

I was going to make a joke about the 95% of the time but thought I, instead, should humbly thank you for saying such a lovely thing about me. Thank you. I get along just fine with people who disagree with me. On the other hand, I'm a bit wary of people who always agree with me. Ok, can't post without some levity... The INTJ prayer: Lord, keep me open to others' ideas, WRONG though they may be. If you can't laugh at yourself, you're probably a danger to others. |
