Subject: Average of orange and apple= ?
This comment came up at work and I thought about it to find a true answer.  I have either nectarine or peach.  Does this sound right?  (This is COJ so I thought I might find some takers)

A nectarine is a peach... They are from the same family except a peach has furry skin.

I will however note that they do have different tastes.

Think of it as if you had a gala apple v. a fuji apple.

I've been staring at technical documents for 2 weeks, so my first thought is that you need a normalization factor (hence the phrase comparing apples to oranges doesn't make any sense)

normalize the apple portion

normalize the orange portion

and then add, dividing by 2.

otherwise, this seems like dividing by zero

This is kind of where the discussion comes up as a person didnt know if they were looking at Danish, Swedish or Norwegian currency.  They wanted an average of what the value might be. Um, huh?

It is imposible... Its as if you have a covered bushel without knowing the contents. You can price it as apples and find you have oranges. You have no normalizing factor to get to base value.

Good Thanks... Good luck at IMmooo '09 BTW... Nice seeing you around again.

Is that when the mother is an orange and the father is the apple, or vice versa?  I was thinking it was an "applange".

Oranges are inferior to apples. And red delicious suck.

Seems to be that the calculation is obvious:

Orange * Apple / 0

Seems to be that the calculation is obvious:

Orange * Apple / 0

Do you mean (Orange * Apple) / 0

or Orangle * (Apple / 0)

it was slightly indefinite...

(pun intended)

I don't think nectarine and peach are that different in tastes.

How about a pluot? Oh... that's the average of plum and apricot.

Well you have to normalize them first.  Maybe convert to Euros.  Get the average in Euros then convert back to either currencies.

What am I talking about?
