Veteran  113  Fremont |  Subject: Cornhusker State Games 2009I just signed up for the state games triathlon. I'm excited to get ready for this one, I've heard its a great event. I know a few others that have signed up for it. Who else out there is planning competing in it this year? Any good insider tips?  |

I'm hoping to do it as a team with my wife and one of our friends. Hopefully we'll see him tonight and ask him if he'll be our biker (I guess he doesn't really like to run). New user 68 Lincoln | Subject: RE: Cornhusker State Games 2009 You know I'm in! I've got some tips: 1. Get an Rx for pennicillin the open water swim is in a NASTY mud puddle! 2. The bike course is a 3 loop ciruit. prepare for some slow long climbs this IS NOT a fast flat out and back course. 3. the run is on a crushed limestone trail, not a flat paved course. 4. 300 competitors-train your off. 5. age group wave start. 6. Race starts at 7:30 and check in starts at 5:30 be there early with this number of athletes I know the race director so anything else you need, let me know! Dr P |

If I read the map right we go south on 70th up the hill, west on pioneers, north on 56th and back to the park and do this for three laps. |

Since 70th, 56th, & Pioneers are four-lane roads, they set up cones and give the cyclists their own lane. I can't remember if they totally block off the road to the North [is it Normal or Van Dorn?] but whatever they do, there is zero fighting with cars and PLENTY of room to pass. It's a very well executed race, except for the swim distance snafu last year! |

But if someone is going to do this race [or any Nebraska lake OWS, for that matter] it's imperative that they do at least one OWS beforehand, because not being able to see more than 6 inches in front of you is a far cry from staring at the black line at the bottom of a pool! And good point about the bike being a thrasher - I forgot about that! I like that hill coming down 56th though  |

I watched the ITU triathlon in D.C. the other day, the swim was in the Potomac river, they were swimming through logs and debris, and still making it look easy... |

The hill going up 70th street is no different than the hills you rode today. You'll be fine! |

New user 68 Lincoln | Subject: RE: Cornhusker State Games 2009 I went and rode it the other day. The whole length of 56th street is basically down hill. That is 1.25 miles of rest and recovery-or free speed the way I look at it! As far as a race goes I would prefer long, straight, out and back courses, I really haven't practiced high speed 90* turns like on this course. Some of those turns are on a downhill or or lead directly up a hill. So just know this will probably not be your fastest bike split. |

The year I did it the roads were clear of traffic. The lake is much cleaner than it was before they rehab'd it. Still, there were some weeds near the edges. Good luck to all who do this race. I like the CSG, and had a great time at the event, but am out this year.

When and where are the opening ceremonies? I for some reason didn't choose to have my packet mailed (dumb since I live in Fremont and won't save any money).
