I think it's fascinating - especially the new rule that regardless of the sex the child will be next in line after William. Considering Henry XIII executed a wife for not producing a male heir... (and in reality he had a male child by a mistress way before that - so crazy).... anywho.

I predict Diana will be the middle name if a girl - Elizabeth Diana or some such.

He is the direct descendant of Henry V afterall.  That guy didn't exactly play by the rules.

That's another reason Elizabeth makes sense.  Because Elizabeth I was the first woman to be Queen.  Victoria and Elizabeth II (current queen) I believe are the only others.  Gotta look it up.

Looked it up.  I guess there were a few along the way: Matilda (Empress), Mary Queen of Scots (technically), Then Elizabeth, Jane, Anne.

It's still really interesting.

I think the monarcy draws more tourism and interest to London than it costs.

The telegraph estimates it at 51p per person.

The most anti-monarch estimates have it at 200 pounds per taxpayer (lots of freeloaders I guess). But that's before you look at return from tourism.  The last two years should put them in the black (wedding tourism, Queen's birthday, Olympic tourism to royal sites) for next year at least.

Exactly and it annoys the f*** out of me that we're still connected these dumbazzes - again for no other reason than that's the way it was made 100+ years ago.

There also was a real pair of Mary.  The first was Elizabeth I's predecessor and half-sister.  The 2nd as between James II and Anne.

Mary I of Scotland was mother of James I, first king of England, Scotland, and Wales (even though he was king of just Scotland from 1567 to 1603,when Scotland entered the United Kingdom)  Thus Mary I of Scotland was only queen of Scotland.

Besides taking some English history classes in college, we looked all this up when we decided to name our daughter after a monarch.  The only problem, she's got to tell everyone her name ends with an E lol.

I'm predicting wealthy and living a life never having to want for anything.

Except maybe privacy.

I wish I was born 11th in line to the English crown. Far enough not to get (media) attention, close enough to partake in the benefits.

Prediction? If it's a girl it will be queen, if it's a boy it will be king.

Another prediction? If temps hold below 70s, he/she can break 4 hrs in the 2030 New York marathon

With the way their great grandma is going (and their great, great grandma), their dad will probably be the next king, and their kid the monarch after that.  Those Windsors live forever!  Most of them lived well into their 70s, 100 years ago (Elizabeth II is 86 right now, her mom lived to almost 102)

That's why we need some Shakespearean Royal Foul Play... to shake things up a bit.

I really wish Charles would abdicate, but I know there's no chance of that happening.

Unless we make it happen...
