Subject: Not new to TRI, new to the board
Hi all. As I stated in the title this is not my first year in Triathlon. I did 4 Sprints in 2006 on the great island of Oahu. I was stationed there and took up the sport. Had some issues with the birth of our 3rd(yes, that's 3) daughter so I dropped out of the scene for a while. I am back hard and heavy.
I am now stationed in RI and recently signed up for the brand new Providence RI 70.3 that will take place in July. I will be doiong at least one Olympic prior to the race, probably in CT, and may look for more afterwards. My goal is to do this half then sign up for a full next year.
I have most of the gear I need, with the exception of a wetsuit(don't really need them in HI) and a new tri suit.
I decided to self coach utilizing the Triathlete Magazine plans. I start my 20 week cycle on 26 February, but until them I am filling the time with 7 weeks of the Sprint training plan. I am glad to be back at this. I felt better about myself the year I raced than I ever had.
I will probably be picking everyone's brains with questions about the 1/2 distance as it is a lot different from a sprint. I am a member of triathlete.com forum but membership there seems to have dwindled to like 6 people since I started racing, so it limits input.
Anyways, just thought I would let you all know a little about me. Maybe find a buddy in the area to keep training tabs with. Talk to you all later.

S-B-R Safe,
Scott

Welcome to BT!

This place is great...plenty of people to offer help and thoughtful opinions.

I spent 11 years on O'ahu and since being back stateside, yes, stateside, I find that the TRI experience out there had only one real benefit -- the scenery.  I recall the biking as being stop and go with the traffic (even on Hickam or Pearl -- on Saturday/Sunday)  Anyhow, I did wear my wetsuit to check for chaffing and fit at Ala Moana.  Could have spent days in the water there with that thing on.

Wecome Scott,

Never raced when I worked at Tripler, but the Oahu scene is great!  Hope RI treats you well -

Check out the forum on Irontalk for more specific IM and HIm advice, and check your local state board out (I met a training group on mine and many of the group workouts help me push just a little harder!).  You may also want to look at the 2008 mentor groups.

Enjoy BT and I know more than 6 of us post on this site!

Welcome Scott.  There is a small RI contingent on the boards, check out the RI forums.  Good luck training this year for the new RI 1/2.
