Did a race Sunday and its now tuesday afternoon and I feel like i'm getting progressively sorer as time goes on.  Sunday evening was feeling pretty good just tired, woke up mon with sore popping knees and as the day progressed my neck has stiffened, shoulders tightened, and now this morning i woke up with a cramped calf as well as more intense neck pain, I was under the impression that pain and soreness would lessen as time got further from the event, not the other way around...

I typically find that if I'm going to get sore from a workout the worst day is 2 days after the workout so this would be totally within my norm.  Although the popping knees don't sound good.

Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), also sometimes called muscle fever, is the pain or discomfort often felt 24 to 72 hours after exercising and subsides generally within 2 to 3 days. It is commonly thought to be caused by increased lactate concentrations; however, high lactate concentrations from exercise typically subside in the body within an hour, so it can not explain pain experienced days after exercise.
