Usual breakfast. O.J. Honey nut Cheerios and a Bagel.
Its a 75 minute drive to the race and had a gatorade during the drive.
Event warmup:

Just a short jog
Run
  • 54m 58s
  • 6.2 miles

Comments:

Apparently there was about 7,000 runners. It took me 4 minutes to get to the startline. Consequently I was dodging slower runners all the time as I started well to the back. At least that stopped me going off too fast. About half way through the race I heard a voice behind me "Are you Ian?" It was Autumn. It was good to actually meet someone on this board in person after about a year of passing inpire me comments. We pretty much finished the race together. When we got to the 6 mile mark I said "Have you got anything left?" Her reply was somewhat affirmative and so we upped the pace to the finish. I had a lot left so I'm sorry if I left you behind Autumn. All in all I'm really happy I came in under 9 min miles which was my goal. Though I could have gone faster If i hadn't been slowed up at the start.
What would you do differently?:

Get nearer to the front next time so I don't have to fight through so many runners
Post race
Warm down:

Went to the movies to see "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy"

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Too many people

Event comments:

I'll see you all next year when I plan to do much better

it was nice meeting you too, ian! no worries about leaving me behind at the finish. between not having as much leg left as you obviously did, and keeping an eye out for the family for a photo op, there was no way i was going to keep up at that point. you had a great race. imagine your pace (and mine) if we hadn't had to dodge all those slower runners and speed walkers?

Fantastic job, Ian!! What a pace! This girl can only dream of such things! Glad you got to meet Autumn too!

Hey, I forgot to mention last week that I signed us (me and the husband) up for the Northwoods Tri, so we'll see you there as well as in Buffalo!

Thanks Girls!
In the cold light of day I'm now a little disappointed. I met my goals for the race. But I was so within myself that I should have set them higher.
Yes but then the race was so busy I wouldn't have met the new goals and i would have been disappointed then. Its a no win situation.
Great to hear you're going to be up at Nevis Kelly, they've promised more Biffy's for this year

Ian
