Subject: First HIM training question

I hope I can make this make sense....My first HIM is on Sept. 19, and I am currently doing the BT Oly to HIM bridge plan.  I just put all the scheduled training into my calendar to make sure I could get it done and see one problem when I am out of town with 4 wks to go, during what is supposed to be the week with the most hours of workouts.  Would it behoove me to swap out the peak week with the following week's plan, so that I do hit the peak miles .. . . .

It breaks down like this:

Weeks to go/minutes per wk

  • 9/505 (this week)
  • 8/555
  • 7/630
  • 6/505
  • 5/655
  • 4/680
  • 3/351
  • 2/535
  • 1/495
  • 0/150 + race

I am thinking of swapping wk 3 and 4 vs not being able to hit 680 min ever.  Is this a wise way to do this??  During wk 4 I will be able to hit about 350 min...more than that will probably not happen.

Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom....

Well, you're gonna be 100% more prepared than I was for my 70.3 no matter what you do, so I think you'll be all right.

SUPER GOOD LUCK with the rest of your training and especially the race

Your plan sounds good. Peak week at 3 to go (essentially 4, since race week is 0) might even be better. The training plans are a guide, definitely adjustable.  Thanks for mapping out the minutes, gives a clear picture.

It does make your last month pretty heavy ... as always, listen to your body and adjust as necessary. You might want to cut back a bit more than to 535 in week 2 to go, for example.

I think that would work. I did almost the exact same thing - I moved 2 weeks around due to family stuff. Is it ideal? No, but life gets in the way sometimes and you have to make adjustments. The key is you're still getting the time in.

I think that you would be fine with the switch. I am sure that you will be ready and do well either way though. You've conditioned over a long period of time and as long as you taper properly you'll be fine. But, if you do feel like you are just pushing that third week too hard I'd think about backing off a bit. I'd much rather go into an HIM a little undertrained and feeling more rested than overtrained and tired or sore.
