I'm trying to pick my "A" race for this season... Muskoka IM70.3 and Montreal Esprit are out (conflict with sister's wdding date - do I really have to go?)...

So I'm thinking about the Ottawa 113 in August.

I undertand the swim is in the river - is it clean? Is there a strong current?
The bikeroute  is on bike paths, right? Is it wide enough to pass comfortably (maybe I'm being too optimistic and should have asked, "is it wide enough to be passed comfortably?"

If you do not mind being a hamster on a wheel then perhaps this would be an ok HIM for you.

The bike route , unless they have changed it, is along the canal........but up and down and up and down and.....well you get the idea.
Personally I cannot stand the idea of endless "laps".....which is why I did Timberman instead of this race.

And the swim? Its in Mooneys Bay..........no strong current, but its not the cleanest body of water out there.

Have you looked into Syracuse 70.3?
Or Musselman in New York state? Lots of BTers RAVE about that race ......

Best of luck with your decision and your race!

Just to add - the bike route is on a closed parkway - plenty of passing room, and is very flat, so it is a great course, but as Aquagirl says, it is six laps.  Personally, I like it and have raced that course many times (sprint and Olympic).  I hope to do the 113 this year.

The run is on bike paths and I believe it is only two laps (could be mistaken).

I swim in the river all the time and it is clean compared to alot of septic systems out there. I am north of Ottawa, close to the nuclear power plant,,, I think the water gives ya super powers,,,,, But seroiusly if you want visability when swimming the ottawa river is not the place to swim. As far as currents there is a little but nothing major
