Subject: Rejected at the polls!!I went to vote for governor of New Jersey today and I wasn't listed in the Poll Book!!! The person working the poll called someone somewhere to verify my voter registration and was told I am not a registered voter! I've been registered since I was 18, have voted at this very same voting location in every election since I turned 18 (with the exception of ones I did via absentee ballot while in college ), and have not moved, changed my name, etc. I did some on-line research today and was unable to find anything that indicated a reason I may have been deleted from the registered voter database...if one exists.
I ended up voting via provisional ballot, but I am concerned that if record of me being registered is never found, then my vote will never count. I do have a voter reg card (didn't have it w/ me at the polls today ), but I doubt they'll call me looking for it. The polls have since closed and of course my one vote won't change who becomes governor, but I take my right to vote very seriously. I also take the local elections seriously as well.
I was just very frustrated/annoyed. Has this ever happened to anyone? I don't know, I have my suspicions that the party I don't belong to was behind this... |
