Total Time = 42m 55s
Overall Rank = 36/183
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 8/42
Pre-race routine:

Up at 6, Muslix, water and coffee, shower, pick up Tom before 7, PowerBar 30min prior to race

Lots of carbs, banannas, gatrorade and water the day prior to the race- feels like this helped!
Event warmup:

Not much- stretching, ran about 1km: could do a bit more stretching next time
Swim
  • 08m 39s
  • 350 meters
  • 02m 28s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was a battle: as tough as I thought it might be but I was pleased to see how well I finished
What would you do differently?:

I started at the inside front by accident; may take a "less agressive" line next time although traffic was not to bad.

Warm up might help
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

Time is an estimate

No surprises here; took too much time worrying about tearing my race number but this may have helped me stay calm removing the wetsuit

Used leaopard print towel to help find bike

What would you do differently?:

I was slow and deliberate this time: not a bad thing. Nothing went wrong, but I could shave a few seconds
Bike
  • 22m 23s
  • 10 kms
  • 26.81 km/hr
Comments:

Fantastic ride; can't beleive how many people I passed throughout the course. Didn't think i could do this well on my MTB

HR was >170 the entire ride, but the legs felt great.Perhaps the high cadence/low power riding on the MTB helps keep the legs fresh????
What would you do differently?:

I did very well on the ride, so I will try and duplicate everything next race

Transition 2
  • 00m 20s
Comments:

Racked bike wrong; I took some time to fix it (probably didn't need to)
Run
  • 11m 53s
  • 2.5 kms
  • 04m 45s  min/km
Comments:

HR was >170 the entire race! I didn't check during the sprint but I would guess it approached 180. I have never sustained HR this high

Could have run a bit harder on the uphill; did not know the course and I was worried about crashing on the homestretch. Left a bit in the tank.

Sprinted the last 500m

Took water at the turn and choked! Practice this!
What would you do differently?:

Walk the course if possible beforehand
Post race
Warm down:

None- went to see Tom finish

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think I did as well as possible for my first race

Most bikes were better than mine!

Event comments:

Glad I wore my HRM: I didn't think I could perform at >170bpm but it was not too intense. Burned 813 KCal. Avg 163bpm, but I started the watch early and forgot to turn it off for a few minutes post race.

Pleased with run and swim, very pleased with bike. Overall a great race for my first.
