Sounds like a rough day at the half marathon, reported temps were around 100 degrees.

"It was winter until literally a week ago," he said. "Everyone that has trained for the marathon, we were all running in rain conditions and training in pretty cold weather. Suddenly people who were training in the cold were running in the heat. your body is not used to it."

That's rough when weather changes so suddenly.

We had a Marine Corps Marathon in Fallujah, and on Al Asad that was run simultaneous with the actual race in DC every year.

Except for a mortar attack in Fallujah that slowed the race in 2007, your times matched people who were running in DC.

The one in Al Asad was 30 degrees cooler than the previous 30 days. Rather be cooler than hotter though.

Yeah, that's terrible. No way to acclimatize.

Probably on a lesser scale I had a similar thing in 2006 - Ottawa marathon weekend I was signed up for my third half marathon - all training I had been making awesome improvements over the last training cycle and then we got hot weather.   I vividly remember our last training weekend being in long sleeves and tights and rather cold and then standing at the start line the next weekend in 26C sunny temps at 10am.  It only got hotter from there.  It was the first hot weekend of the year - i saw people getting medical treatment all over the race course.  Thankfully they had sponges and sprinklers out on the course but I still overheated and had to walk quite a bit in the second half - I was so disappointed not to PB (not even close) after all that hard work.  It happens but it sucks. (Glad I wasn't doing the marathon)

It was referred to as the 'Hot-tawa' race for a while.

Boston last year.  Sooooooo many people here trained all winter (which was mild, admittedly) then got baked on race day.  One of the only times I wasn't bummed to miss it!

Does sound terrible...
