Aluminum foil is a great cat deterrence. You only have to put it down for a little while and they get the message.

I prefer putting them in the Tabby Tote for the evening.

My cat doesn't mind foil. Or orange peels, or any of the other tricks I've seen. Only thing that gets him off the counter is the good old spray bottle full of water. All I have to do is start reaching for it and he takes off.
