Subject: 11.04.2019 Monday Training Thread 5:45 AM: 3.1-mile run. With some run drillings to start it out as I waited from my GPS watch to locate satellites. Well, October was my month off. I did do a Race the 5th of October and a fun run the 26th of October, but I took two weeks of the month completely off without a single work out and the other two weeks only had three workouts for a total of 2-3 hours training. So this was Day-1. I had a great pre-season plan for the next 12 weeks, but last week had second thoughts after reading a blog by my BT mentor about the offseason. It said to build volume and not do any intense work as you start your season. Two of my last three years I have done a lot of speed work in the pre-season at reduced volumes then started to build volume about 3-4 months before the A-Race (2-3 months before my first B race). I was planning on doing the lower volume high-intensity plan for the rest of the year and then when I get my race schedule finalized over the next two months to make plans as to how I want to build volume. Now I am wondering if I should be building volume for the next three months and then look at the speed work when I get to the quality training cycle 2 months before races. :-) I don't think there is a right and wrong way, but there may be a way that is better for me right now so I am 2nd guessing myself. Well...At least I have been through this a few times now and know what has worked in the past. Starting is always the hardest part. One I get going things fall in place. :-) Have a great day BT. |
