Race Team Survey

Good question.

I actually no longer apply to these programs. I am just happy with my community club and I get to wear what I want.

:-) But I am super curious what other people are thinking.

I didn't realize until this year that there was an application process every October or November for most of the race teams.  I always figured it was one of those things where you had to know the right people and be in the inside crowd to be on a team. 

So...now that I know you can apply I wonder what people look for in the teams that they apply to.  I personally live in a rural town where our only pool is a 15-yard exercise pool and our closest bike shop in over 50 miles away.  So there aren't any local team options unless I go about 2 hours away.  I would like to hear if people get more benefits out of the national race teams, brand ambassadorships, local clubs, etc. and what to look for before you apply for a team.

I feel there's more interaction with a local team than with one of these national teams. I am part of a national team but it's low key and most of us are quite busy with life etc. but we still have meet ups at races from time to time. We have gotten some small sponsorships in the past as well as good gear discounts. I am also on a local cycling team where interaction with teammates is weekly and often more than one time per week.

I enjoy the discounts at LBS and it helps to keep them in business. I will only buy online if it's a very substantial difference in cost.
