Working off the prior thread, thought I'd see how ugly other tri / 5k shirts are around the country! Why are they so ugly? Do they use the worst colors b/c the shirts are cheaper?

it costs a lot less to get the race organizers 4 year old daughter to draw something up than to pay a professional.

What I hate is that because most runs/races are charity events, and most charities are largely full of female volunteers, they end up making the race shirts rather effeminate.  What they fail to realize is that most of their racers are men.  I've got a number of shirts from races that I simply will not wear because they're rather effeminate looking.

Get a clue public relations people!  If you want us to be your walking billboards, give us a cool looking shirt!  Otherwise, just knock $12 off the cost of the event and don't have the dang shirts made up!

I beg to differ...if I get one more MEN'S t-shirt for a race, I will scream.   There are enough women racing at most big races to make it worthwhile to have a women's style shirt as well.  I would say at most of the races I do around here, almost half of the participants are women. I want something that actually fits me!!  No one would ever expect a man to wear a shirt made to fit a woman!

(rant done...this is a pet peeve of mine!!)

I don't have a picture but I attended an event (not a tri or run) where the shirt is color of hospital gowns.  (something like this)

Long sleeves, size S is as big as an extra large,  and a large is bigger than XXXL. The material is like the wash-out fabric.

Worse, everybody has to wear the shirt in order to identify the group from the crowd.  So we all look like a bunch of "special people" just escaped from the mental hospital.

Yam City Triathlon. The S/B/R guys on the shirt are supposed to be yams, but they bear a close resmblance to Southpark's Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo.

YAM

The hi-visibility yellow only adds to its charm.

i actually used to work at a graphic design place that did an annual pro-bono t-shirt design for a 5k run in the area because of something with charity and taxes.  We'd usually have one graphic designer do something very professional and gender neutral.

I agree!  That martian shirt ROCKS!

And thus, the difference between men & women.  The chicks would probably prefer a pastel shirt with flowers & kittens, and the dudes want martians, monsters, and explosions.

Sizes are a different issue.  The RD should be able to order EXACTLY the right number of shirts in each size based on what you fill out on the entry form.

I like the Martian Shirt.

I did my first 5k.  It was for a local high school track team, so I don't want to post the image.  The shirt is bad.  Pretty bumbed for my first "shirt".

For my husband's first half mary he was really looking forward to wearing the race shirt at work the following day to show of his accomplishment. He works in construction. When we got to the race site and saw the shirts they were a very pretty pastel pink! LOL

hahaha I think the Hayden Memorial shirt is interesting! Interesting... ha at least not an eyesore! And the Martian race - I agree with joshboots and the rest that that shirt is freaking awesome! Dude I would wear that to the movies... (ok maybe I'm not the coolest kid out there but still..!)

Although I have to admit it is very unorthodox for a triathlon shirt!

I hate the Martian shirt so much too!!  I won't even wear it on the trainer.  Alone.  Maybe I'll put mine up for grabs in the Pay it Forward thread since it has never seen the light of day and some people dig it...

I love all the funny details on the martian shirt like the water bottle belt that doubles as a laser gun holster.
