What is it?

First Come in Mind: My evil-bay trainer that resemble the power(aka noise) of a straight pipe V8 Mustang or Harley

Close Second: a beat up sunglasses with a cracked lens thats holding together by crazy glue, missing all rubber pieces and stripped paint

Third: a pair of bike shorts that washed to the point where it is semi-transparent.  (I never wear it in group ride!  heck, I never wear it in public now!)

The Selle San Marco ERA saddle on my cross bike.  It started out on my road bike 5 years ago, then moved over to the mountain about 3 years ago, and is now on the cross bike.  It still works so I am not ready to replace it, but if I come across another new one for cheap I may finally change it.

My tri shoes.  They cause my Morton's Neuroma to act up and are just plain beat up.  The plastic under the heel is falling off too.

I am trying to make it through at least one more season since they only start to really hurt after 1.5+ hours and I'm not doing much of anything longer than that this year.  But I really do need new ones.

My wrist watch.  Had it for years.  Need a new one in a bad way.

That would be my mountain bike. Bought at Wal Mart in the early 90s by my much taller MIL and handed down to me. It feels like it weighs more than I do.

1. Bike helmet - It's circa 2000, kicked around in my car in the Phoenix sun for a couple summers, and been in one crash.
2. Bike shoes - Also circa 2000, and the upper is separating from the sole slightly in the toe box of one of them.
3. Trainer - Pain in the tookus to get on and off since the handle is broken.

[climbs onto soapbox]

dOOd, seriously, bike helmets are NOT THAT EXPENSIVE! Seriously. Want to know how cheap they are? Check out your insurance deductible for one trip to the ER. Oh, but wait, that gets waived if you get admitted, so maybe you'd be okay...after several thousands of dollars in hospital bills...

[off soapbox]

My bike. Hardcore. Love him, but he's made for the trails. We got very cranky at each other last year trying to ride the roads. Now I give him some dirt lovin' whenever I can (which is not nearly often enough). I want a road bike in the biggest baddest way so I can show the MonSter who's boss.

It was my 1987 Murray girl's 10 speed, steel frame bike...until today.  I just got a brand new Fugi 3.0 road bike.  Pics to follow when I can get any of my photos to upload.  Can't wait to really ride it...Laughing

My wife would say - ME!

I've got some beat up old stuff, but nothing I'm "desperate" to replace.  If I were, I would.  If it works and does the job and I can easily and cheaply keep it going, why replace it?

A 1984 Miyata 710 road bike with the original Suntour friction derailluers and 27" wheels.  It's set up as the "family bike" with the mount for the bike trailer.  It works, why replace it?

a 10-year old Topeak Panoram 3-screen bike computer.  It's wireless, but I'm sure there is waaaaay better stuff out there!

Fatdoggy gave me a bunch of Spinervals VHS tapes.  That's right, not DVD, VHS!!!  I still use them (for as long as the VCR still works).

And I do have a 6-year old Headsweat that is probably nasty as all hell!  I wash it and have others, but for some reason, I can't seem to throw this one out.

I need desperately to replace my 105 shifter set.  I have to change gears with 2 fingers with it.

My helmet is not that old, 4 years, but it was bright yellow and has faded to dull yellow.

My mountain bike shoes are the only ones I've ever owned.  The have laces and velcro.  They are ugly, but the fit sooo well.

My aerobars.  They're the flip up kind, and the spring on one of the pads is broken so that pad is down permanently, but jiggles around when I'm riding.  I feel sorry for anybody I'm riding with on a bumpy road, because it's really noisy.

My 4-bottle fuel belt.  I bought it when I was training for my 1st marathon in 2002 and I still haven't parted with it.  It's horribly faded, has crystallized Gu gel in both pockets and only one of the pockets still zips!  I love that it has an actual buckle-thingy rather than the velcro that the new ones have and I think it has character.  I finally decided I would break down and get one of the cute, new pink ones, but my local running store didn't have the 4-bottle version so I figured it was fate telling me to keep the old one.

Note:  I do replace the drinking bottles every year, though...they start to get gross if you don't.

I have those same ones! I think the rattling makes me go faster because I want to get to the end of the ride to make it stop!

My road shoes need to go. They're worn pretty thin where the upper meets the sole.

that happened to me on my old bike - with those same bars.  there is this stuff called 'duct tape' that you can apply on the levers holding the pads. . then they are permanently down on your bars w/o rattling

Well, I do have a piece of personal equipment getting beat up by time in the saddle.  I don't think I'd replace it but I hope it continues to work in 20 years
