I didn't see a thread created yet, so I thought I'd start one.

Anyone else in for 2013? A little less than 3-1/2 months to go!

Feeling good about my swim and run at this point of my training, but not nearly feel I am where I need to be on the bike yet.

You still have plenty of time to log in some serious bike miles.

Just got done making hotel reservations. If anybody is looking for a nice hotel for a good price I would recommend staying at the Country Inn and Suites. Stayed there last year during Redman and was very pleased.

How's everyone's training going?

I'm starting to ramp up my cycling significantly for the next 5 weeks until taper begins. This Sat I'm doing my first century (I've done 4 80+ rides so far) of the training season.

I am doing the 70.3 again not the full distance. Until I go sub 4:50 I am not going to sign up for a full distance race. Great organized race, great volunteers, and plenty of aide stations. Only negative is a ride the coarse or parts of it I ride all the time, and it gets rather boring. Also spend lots of time doing laps around the the run coarse. I like races where I have no clue what to expect.

Training is going pretty well. Dealing with some minor running injuries but what is new.

How did the century go? Did you ride it at race pace and work on your nutrition?

this is my first 140.6 and I am gaining more confidence with every long ride I do. My biggest worry is the bike for some reason!

Sorry to hear you're dealing with some running injuries! Hope they heal up quick.

First century went REALLY well. Was under race pace but the course I rode is significantly more hilly than Redman, so I'm not too worried about it. Nutrition and hydration were both spot on.

My last long workouts were this weekend and I have started my taper.

Last long ride yesterday. Started taper this morning with 5.5mile run. That will be my longest run until race day.

Interesting that you posted this. I bonked on my last long run, which was supposed to be 18 on Labor Day. I only got in 7. My plan called for 10 tonight - do you think I should do the 10 or cut it back to 7 or so given that last week's long run wasn't actually very long? At this point, the hay's in the barn, but I'm a bit nervous about going into race day having my last actual long run being 4 weeks out. Thoughts?

I personally do not subscribe to a long taper. I will continue with pretty normal training regimen until the week of the race. I would stick with whatever plan you have chosen to go with and stick with it though. I plan on getting 8-11 hours in this week with a couple of higher intensities early in the week. Next week I will do something almost everyday including day before race. I just won't be out killing myself or doing intervals.

I would listen to your body. I would plan on doing 10 but if things aren't feeling good I would end the run. All your really doing now is keeping fitness and keeping your body sharp. Like you said the hay is in the barn your not going to make any fitness gains in the next 12 days. But turning a 10 miler into a slog fest could potentially end up in injury or be a a huge blow mentally.

Thanks very much, EKH and Morpheus! I will attempt the 10 as planned!

It's funny - if it hadn't been for the crappy run last weekend, I wouldn't even be questioning this one, but I'm so paranoid about going into raceday overtrained and sluggish that I keep questioning everything. It's all mental!

Run went well! Ran about 30 sec/mi slower than usual and felt good. Legs feel fine today, too. Thanks to both of you for the advice!

Executing this full Ironman plan for 17 weeks would give people with one Ironman under their belts very good preparation for a 2nd and 3rd. Preferably, you should have a 6:30 or faster HIM time.

This Intermediate 20 week plan is a quick ramp up in overall volume, but with 20 weeks to train only, it is a gradual and safe approach because of the alternating weeks of the long run/bike.
