Pro 3906 Libertyville, IL | Subject: Crummy weather challenge Week Three (Nov 26-Dec 2) As always, keep posting on this thread if you want in. Happy suckage to you all!! Finally some crummy weather headed for the midwest later in the week. From a housekeeping standpoint, remember the following: 1. Reporting week is Sun-Saturday 2. I dont have time to calculate your workouts, so please have point total on here. Specifics are encouraged to add to the flavor of the challenge but when updating the spreadsheet, I dont have time to number crunch for peep. Now get out there, ya sissy!! |

Veteran 216 Calgary, Alberta | Subject: RE: Crummy weather challenge Week Three (Nov 26-Dec 2) I've calculated that if I were to be insane enough to go running tonight, I would get 13 * my time for points. However, the risk of frostbite is right up there as well. I might have to go buy a balaclava to cover my cheeks. I'll try to post another (smaller) picture if I work up the insanity to go. |

Extreme Veteran 498 Montana | Subject: RE: Crummy weather challenge Week Three (Nov 26-Dec 2) Just ran for 27 minutes at 3 below zero for 216 points. It really was not that bad. I had on a neck gaitor, hat, down vest over two wicking layers, ski long johns, fleece tights, ski socks and my tennies- and down gloves. My nose was a little cold but most of my run was facing toward the sun. Should have gone ten more minutes but I was getting hungry for some hot soup. Do you guys get some funny looks? Like people look out of their cars and are thinking, "What a moron out here running!". I got a few of those today...Its nice to know you crazy people are all here so I can feel somewhat normal |

Veteran 216 Calgary, Alberta | Subject: RE: Crummy weather challenge Week Three (Nov 26-Dec 2) I actually heard a good tip on the radio this morning for cold weather running. Any exposed pieces of skin should be slathered with vasoline - it prevents those areas from getting frostbitten or freezing. I haven't tried it myself, but if anyone knows remedies for cold weather wear, I figure us folks up north are some of the best! Good for you Willow for braving the cold. People give you wierd looks out of confusion and jealousy. WTF is she doing... is that running? Is there a person hidden under all those layers? Man, I really need to lose 5lbs... |

The only thing that will make up for the crap drive home tonight in the snow will be if I get to run in it tomorrow at 4am! I know you guys go by "donkey" but this time of year "sled dog" might be more appropriate.

I think you should wait till it's 14 degrees (5 points!) and then you'll probably get some points for wind too. I'm all about maximizing the pointage for maximum suckitude gains. |

Next week it is only supposed to be high's in the low 40's, so I'll be able to get some points back! |

I can still get out there, just dont want to go to gangbusters for the sake of suckitude. |

Elite 2673 Muskego, WI | Subject: RE: Crummy weather challenge Week Three (Nov 26-Dec 2) If the forecast is correct, I'm gonna be running right in the teeth of a snowstorm with 35mph wind gusts tomorrow AM. For some strange reason, this contest has me sort of excited about that concept. God forbid I have to explain that outloud to someone (like my wife, for example). "Ya see, here's the thing...there's a point challenge on this website, and I get points for running in shat weather, and I really wanna... (subjects eyes glass over)." |

Extreme Veteran 333 Las Vegas, NV | Subject: RE: Crummy weather challenge Week Three (Nov 26-Dec 2) Well, yesterday I ran in shorts/wicking t-shirt, as it was 79 degrees at 11:30 a/m. Right now, it's 34, raining and windy. Sucks!!! I left Wisconsin to get away from this. By the way, those from New Berlin and Muskego will appreciate this. My parents live in Franklin, and this past summer, when I was back visiting, training for IMWI, I rode from Franklin to Whitewater and back. What a gorgeous ride. Winters absolutely suck there, but man, the simple beauty of summer in WI can't be beat! |

Conversely, I have been way bummed about the beautiful weather we were having. 55 and drizzle this time of year yesterday would have anyone stoked to get out there. I was grumbling almost the whole time about that extra 5 degrees that cost me my Suckage points. |

Thanks for the reminder. Because it's such a short summer, I love the way we all jump head-first into the summer weekends. It's just action 24-7, at least for me and my family. Though I'd love better weather, I'd sorta miss that sense of urgency we get around here. And, nice epic ride, that is some beautiful country. I love the New Berlin/Muskego area for that reason. 5 minutes west and I'm in boondocks USA with beauty and nature all around. |

Or, if they manage to listen all the way through, they respond with, "So what do you get if you win?". Best not to even start that conversation. Dan, you can take comfort in the fact that I'll be out there running with you (although about two hours away) unless I decide to

molto veloce mama 9311 | Subject: RE: Crummy weather challenge Week Three (Nov 26-Dec 2) well, guess what got me out the door today? MY MOM! she called this morning to tell me she ran most of her normal hike route this morning. she takes her dog out for a long walk every morning, and has been trying to run more. she got the thumbs up from her doc to run, since her almost 66 year old knees look fantastic. anyway, she ran, and its colder where she lives than it is here! so, out i went. it was 15 when i left, 18 when i got back, so solidly in the 3 point range. 1 point for the 9 mph winds. and hey, do i get any extra credit for pushing a jogging stroller? if we get an extra point for the bike...i'm just sayin'.... fiona was bundled up so much she looked like a chiptle burrito...and stayed almost as warm. 60 x 4 = 240 might go out again in a little bit for a 2 mile run. i'm only 1.75 miles away from going over 80 for the month. |

Crystal Lake, IL | Subject: RE: Crummy weather challenge Week Three (Nov 26-Dec 2) I haven't done the math yet, not that many points since I cut the run in half due to having to leave early for work. But here's the fun pictures. Sorry they're not that great because they are from my phone. 30 degrees was nice and toasty - I actually over dressed. Reports of wind gusts up to 40 mph on the radio, but I'll use the 17 mph from weather.com to remain consistent in my reporting. 3-4 in of snow on the ground when I headed out. |

It seems like us northerners may have a slight advantage....should we add in an above the 45th parallel decrease of some kind? |

As I took off this morning, I was wondering which of you bastages was out in that stuff. I know Morey would have been there if not for being a good hubby in a crisis. Going to await the Garmin official word on the wind, but I am either at a 318 or 424 for this AM based on 27 degrees, heavy snow, and winds right around 20. Will await final say before logging that though unless anyone knows a website to find avg weather for a certain time? |
