Subject: What's up for August, Swim-Run challange anyone?

Lot's of challanges going on this month.  After 3 weeks of vacation I need some motivation.  Anyone interested in a Swim-Run challange for August?  Teams, Individuals, etc, I don't care, I need focus!

I could also be interested in a little challange considering I am doing a super spring in August and then training for a full sprint. Also would like to get more swimming in. What do you have in mind?

...What do you have in mind?

Post your commitment for the swim and run in this thread.  Swim in yards/meters or time (minutes) and the Run in miles/km or time (minutes).  The weeks for August start and end near the endpoint of a week so I'd like to start this July 31st and end Sept 3rd, this is 5 complete weeks and will bring me to the halfway point of my 20wk HIM training program.

Anyone can join at anytime, I'll add names to the spreadsheet (attached) as we go.  I'd like to see a bunch of encouragement along the way for/from eveyone!  If we get enough people we can divide up and have try and get the bragging rights!

Here's my commitments, going for 90% of the training plan...

  • Swim = 635 minutes
  • Run = 689 minutes

I'm going to put in for about half of what you have down, since i'm still getting into tri's and I don't want to jump right into to much and wind up hurting myself.  I think this challange is definitely the thing to get me motivated!

Swim - 317 minutes

Run - 344 minutes

Jeff,

Also are you sure you are ready for 5.2-5.7 hours of swimming and running (1+ hours each week)?  Do you have a training plan?  If not, please don't get hurt doing this and take a look at some training plans available on BT.  It is very helpful to have one so you can best keep track of your progress.  In the past challenges I used ~70-80 percent of the training plan I was on for my challenge goal.  Things happen in life; illness, injury, travel, etc, that taking a percentage helps to compensate for.

Nothing is going wrong with/to me in August

I don’t know about minutes. But, I think that I’m going to try for 50 miles of running and 15,000 meters swimming. Both very do-able, I think. Maybe I need to up the swim mileage and lower the run—input is greatly appreciated.

Looking at your logs, that sounds like a good build-up goal for the run (+12%), and the swim would be about a +20% increase, why not!

Sounds like something I need. Hopefully I will exceed this in the water and meet the run.

Swim 340 minutes
Run 625 minutes

and for good measure I would like to hit 400 miles in August.

I guess I need to focus and get my body out of bed in the morning.

What a great challenge, count me in. I'm relatively new to the site (thus no logs), but I think I can do what's below. The swim may be tough so I could use encouragement there. I'm hoping for a half-iron at the end of Oct.

Swim: 15000yd
Run: 100mi

I like the 15000m swim and 100 mi run why not put a bike challenge of 400 Miles in as well. Thoughts? I am in on this one.

I'm in...

Run = 45 miles
swim = 15,000

The triathlon I am training for is Sept 9 so this will work perfectly. The school where I teach begins Aug 15, so any motiviation to keep a strict schedule is great.

Not to worry I should be fine doing the swim and run, its a little over an hour a week for run and swim, I don't have a specific plan I took one off BT and modified it because the swimming parts were always to little. Although I havn't swam in the last couple of weeks I did swim in highschool and a little in college so the swim shouldn't be that bad. As for the run I have just been a slacker and not run enough. I'm also finishing up my summer grad school class so I should have plenty of extra time to train through August Smile. Thanks for the conscern though Don. If I feel like it is to much i'm not going to over push myself though.

I think I could be in for that 100 run 400 bike. Let me know what gets panned out, if we decide to go swim/run put me in for the 15000 goal.
