Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Boxer, I have some SirIsaacs that I haven't used in a while. My advice would be wait until after NYC to transition. They can be hard on your calves/achillies at first... don't think you want/need that right now. At most, I would put them on for speedwork/short runs but I'd stick with whatever you usually use for long runs and the race. I have about 200 miles on mine and one day I injured my R achillies wearing them. Haven't gone back since. On the other hand I have a funny gait as I supinate and post quite a bit so your results may vary. One week down, 5 to go before race day... This ones going to come up fast! EW |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ed, Thanks SO much. I guess this is not the time to try anything radically new like Newtons. Your advice is great and thanks for sharing your experience. I switched this year already from Asics Nimbus to Mizuno Wave Rider 13 and so far I like them a lot. Pose Technique is more complicated than it sounds. I've already made some little changes like increasing my pace and straighten up a bit my posture. I was watching St. Anthonys today and they had a slow mo of Craig Alexander and I saw he still lands on the heels (not the way you are supposed to on Newtons) and he is a running ANIMAL. Not that I would consider changing to Newtons just because he uses them but because Pose Tech seems to be the right way to run. I will wait until next season and give them a try. That's going to be an expensive experiment!!!! How did you feel this week? My running feels good but still, sub 4 mary still looks a bit optimistic for me. Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sub 4 would be a huge reach for me too at this point. Couldn't hold onto that tempo on a 12 mile training run this weekend, so unlikely to hold it for 26.2. NYC... just want to have a fun race... chat people up... be able to walk around the city a bit that day/evening go to a good dinner and enjoy. Almost there, EW |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Totally agree! I really would like to finish not feeling absolutely miserable on the last few miles. I want to find a comfortable pace that I know I can sustain a HAVE A BLAST! I love New York, that is a pretty special place and being able to run the marathon is awesome. Then, I guess I can take whatever pace I hold and make it a good base and set some realistic goals for next year IM. I know I need to work on my running so this will be a good starting point. Looking forward to see you at the expo. What is your racing number? E-Dub - 2010-10-04 12:54 PM Sub 4 would be a huge reach for me too at this point. Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm in. Just did Half Marathon in Central Park this past weekend, and the 18mile Marathon Tune Up race a few weeks ago. Those hills are HARD!!! Luckily the marathon doesn't hit the hardest ones. But after those races, me thinks a sub 4:00 may be too ambitious for me as well. I'll run 20's the next 2 weekends, so that will tell me for sure where I stand. I'm on the Green route - first wave - 18th corral. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Man! those are some pretty serious workouts!!! 26.2 will be piece of cake for you!!! (just kidding ![]() Yeah, I'm pretty relaxed about the time, just like Ed, I really want to enjoy the experience. That doesn't mean I'm going to try hard, but time won't be my main goal and won't let it spoil this great experience. I'll try to build to maybe 18 before the race. I'll hit some bridges around town (no hills in Savannah!) I've heard the upslopes can really get you in NY. runnerx - 2010-10-05 2:17 PM I'm in. Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm running! 3rd year in a row. Aiming for 3:20s. Mileage is a bit better than last year, and we have an extra week of training left so I think I'm in good shape. Blue start, wave 1. Good luck everyone! All we can do now is a few more long runs, a healthy taper, and hope for good weather! |

I can't wait to finally experience the most awesome race in, like you said, the greatest city in the world!!! It will be my first after several attempts. Happy Holidays to you! Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I agree with you. 58 degrees hi temp with sunny skies!!!! Can't ask for more!!! Ok, here's my realistic goal for this race: Run for 26.2 miles. Maybe a few steps walking through aid stations but no more walking after that. And obviously have a blast and enjoy the whole experience as much as I can!!! Time, what ever I can do that day. I'll be at the expo Saturday, probably picking up stuff that I don't need ![]() Arriving to La Guardia Friday afternoon. I can't hardly wait!!! I have pretty scary dreams thinking of mile 20 and beyond............. I think I'll bring my iPod with some lifting songs to pick me up at this point. Any body else taking iPods on race day????? I know they say "Highly discouraged" and I won't be using it during the start or first stages of the race, but at the end I think it becomes a necessity!! What do you all think????? bscharff - 2010-10-29 12:05 PM not much chatter on here... hope everyone is healthy and looking forward to next weekend... just checking the weather, and as of now it looks like it should be pretty decent... |
