Subject: Swimming near Courtenay?
Hello all! I'm headed from California on a road trip to visit my friend who lives up on Vancouver Island near Courtenay (in Royston, specifically). Is there anywhere recommended to swim up there? Is it safe to OW swim? Any suggestions for good places to run/ride? Thanks so much!

You'll love Courtney. I don't live up there, but my family has a cabin on the ocean, so I'm a frequent up there in the summer. I can't think of any lakes to swim in, but I'm sure someone who lives there could tell you some good ones. There are alot of rivers, but they are not safe for anything but tubing down or just taking a dip in. If you want to swim the ocean, Kye Bay is an amazing beach, and always alot of people there.
As for biking/running, Courtney is a really great place for that. There are bike lanes everywhere, and it's just a great place to be. If you feel like biking up a mountain, bike up Mt. Washinton, ammaaazzing views, and great for hiking.

Have a wicked time up there, it's an amazing place to be!

Hey!  I live in Courtenay!!  Let me know when you are coming this way and maybe we might be able to hook up for an OWS.  Kye Bay is nice as well as Goose Spit for ocean swimming.  Comox Lake is awesome for swimming too.  It's a little on the cool side since it's glacier fed, but nothing a wet suit won't fix.

There are no shortages of good places to ride or run.  Trail or road, we have it all!  Ok...I think that I am starting to sound like the Tourist BUreau

Cheers,

Heather
