Subject: What to eat the night before and day of a sprint Triathlon?

I have a sprint triathlon tomorrow morning.  My wave goes at 8:40.  Curious to what others eat the night before.  What to eat that morning?  I plan to get up about 4:45 am and be there at 5:30 am.  I then have three hours.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Eat a good balance of carbs (mostly) and protein-you should already have plenty of fuel onboard for a Sprint.

Question?  Why are you arriving on-site so early?  I think I'd rather get a few extra zzzz's than mill around the start for so long.

GOOD LUCK!

You don't need to do a lot of "carbo loading" for a sprint. instead, make sure you eat something that's not gonna upset your stomach - heading out for spicy asian food or the fiery burrito might not be your best bet. Instead, eat something relatively bland you've eaten before and know will settle well.

Morning of is something you need to practice.  Some do well with nothing; others prefer the IHOP "International Passport" breakfast special.

For a typical morning race, I like something grainy (wheat bagel, oatmeal, granola) when I first get up usually with OJ. Then, about an hour before start, I'll top off with a ClifBar - a couple hundred calories of easily absorbed energy. I'm then good for a sprint with no further intake other than water and/or Gatorade.

x2.....

I'm good with a Cliff bar as early as I can stomach it, hydration throughout the morning and a gu/gel 15 - 20 minutes before I start.

The night before, I usually have some white rice or pasta with cheese and a little bit of protein (usually pre cooked chicken).

Good luck.....

If his transition opens at 5:30, and the racks are "first-come first served", I'm all for getting there as early as possible, getting a good spot on the racks, and getting set up while transition's still not super crowded. He can always go back to his car and catch a few extra zzz's once he's set up.

To the OP: I usually have a bowl of pasta with some protein the night before. I have a bagel with peanut butter and jelly in the morning when I get up, and then a gel with some caffeine in it about 15 minutes before my wave goes off. If I've got a long wait between breakfast and my wave start, I might sip on a sports drink while I'm setting up. Otherwise, just water with Nuun or other electrolyte supplement.
