Pre-race routine:

Not much. Picked up 2goggs and headed up to the race. Couldn't believe the traffic. For a 5k? Come to find out, it is huge. 3k+ racers. Checked in, got the chip. Stood around waiting
Event warmup:

2goggs and I went for a very, VERY short jog just to get the legs a wee bit warmed up. It was chilly.

Comments:

Went into this race with no expectations at all. I really have hardly run at all in the last month or so. This was really just to get some speed work in. I surprised myself.

Such a short race there really isn't much to say. About the mile marker, my right ankle started to hurt a little. Felt like something needed to pop. I have a feeling that is a combination of shoes that need to be replated (close to 350 miles on the pair I was using) as well as the minimum mileage I'd racked up lately.

That went away but was replaced by a little side stitch at mile 2. But Tony and I kept running and occassionally talking. That helped.

Next thing I knew, we were coming up on the 3 mile marker and so we picked up the pace a bit to finish strong. I wanted to finish below 24:00 and looking at the race clock we were, but I knew it took us at least 30 seconds to officially start (chip timed) so I knocked that time out of the water.

This is actually a PB for me on pace and over all time, by 1 second. Go figure. I possibly could have gone sub 23:00. Oh well. Maybe next time.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster. But with only having run about 15 miles total in the last month or so, I'm pretty pleased with the result.
Post race
Warm down:

Found Beth, quite easily, and went into the tent to OD on some chocolate. Then the three of us went out for a killer breakfast. YUMMY! I had an eggs benedict with chorizo sausage. So good.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of over all run training.

Event comments:

If they do it again next year, I'll do it. Fun race. Big crowd. Flat course. The makings of PR times. ;)
