Racing has been filling my sleeping hours on a more consistent basis lately, but last night was just weird.

I'm in my wetsuit heading toward the coast where the gun has already gone off for my swim start (I'm always late for it in my dreams, but I've never been late in reality). I fly past an official who is somehow moving with me, but staying still at the same time and he is telling me the course has changed due to sharks being spotted on the course we are now running on wooden logs floating on the course. Mind you there are only two sets of logs running parallel to each other.

The sun hasn't even come up yet, I felt like I was in the middle of a Stephen King novel, you know where the sky is weird colors that vibrate and its eerie for no reason. So this official stays on shore as I plow into the water toward the logs. Somehow I catch up to my wave, but everything from there is SLOW MOTION and as desparately as I might try to go faster I just can't. And not only that I can't get around the girls that are going slower than me. I ended up jumping in the water to try and swim around some people, but I couldn't get back on the logs and in the process of me trying they repassed me and I was behind them again. Can you say WHAT!?! And then my alarm went off.

I made the mistake of reading Madcow's post about his brush with disaster on his bike ride late last night - then I proceeded to have this crazy dream that I was trying to get to my marathon (I haven't run one yet), and I was incredibly late - I was running and runnign to get to the starting line - the main group had already left by the time i got there - I finally started running the course, and realized that I had forgotten my gel and water, and hadn't eaten - so next thing I know, I'm in my kitchen, in my running gear, trying to very quickly cook some hotdogs to take on the road with me.......I don't remember how the race ended up, but it could not have been good after eating hot dogs......Later, hopefully we will race better tonight!!!!!Dennis

Oh, wow, that's how my marathon actually WENT. I left for the city about half an hour later than I intended, and when I got there it was PACKED with thousands of runners and spectators all looking for parking. So I ended up parking blocks and blocks and blocks (these are city blocks, mind) and running about a mile and a half, maybe two miles, to the starting line. When I get there it's 15 minutes before the gun, and there are maybe 20 port-a-potties for..........I don't know, ten thousand people? So the gun goes off and there are still four or five people AHEAD of me in line, but there's no way I'm starting a marathon when I have to go to the bathroom, and I figure I have a chip anyway so what difference does the gun time really make...........by the time I finally got to the general area of the start, everyone was LONG gone, and I couldn't tell which way I was supposed to go, and started running in the wrong direction! A kindly spectator pointed out to me, "the marathon went THAT way, dear."

 It was a great start.

Thanks for the reminder!

:-)

Very funny story - I knew there was a reason I always get to races about two hours early.Dennis

I had a dream where an angry bovine was in my yard and mad at me because a cattle tracking system I helped implement caused him to be ostrasized from his herd in Montana when the other cattle found out he was really from Pennsylvania.  Wierd...
