Subject: Deer Creek Swim Course
I'm sure if I keep poking around I'll eventually find this answer, but I haven't found it yet.  I'm interested in knowing what the course is of a sprint at Deer Creek.  I am going to be doing some OWS practicing for my first tri that is going to be up in Sylvania.  I am the same distance from both Alum Creek and Deer Creek and was able to find a course for the tri's that have been held at Alum but not Deer Creek.  Would like to have some idea how far I should swim, do a triangle or just out and back or what, if I went to get some OWS practice in at Deer creek.

Can anyone point me towards one or give me a general idea of if you swim along the buoys you'll be swimming X distance?

I believe they set up the race buoys pretty close to where the permanent buoys are.
If you are looking out at the water, the race starts about 2/3rds down the beach to the right. You get in, swim out to about where the buoys are all the time. Turn right. Swim down to the end. (This is not quite as far as the permanent buoys go, I think.)  Then at the end turn left, go out a little bit away from the beach (15-20 yards?) and then turn left again. Follow the line of buoys upstream (to the left if you are standing on the beach looking at the water) all the way to the end of the swimming zone. I believe this is close to where the last of the swim zone permanent buoys are now. Turn left and come back in toward the beach 20 yards or so. Then continue along the beach back toward where you started.

So it's a big rectangle, and you swim it counterclockwise.

Maybe someone who just did it a couple weeks ago  can describe it better.

For a workout, I usually just swim along the inside of the line of buoys, down and back, for safety.

sylvania is a square and it is a short course (400 yards or so). If you are worried about your swim this is a great course because of the swim length. It is also a very flat bike and run and the run is shaded. And they have a beer truck at the end. It is my fav race ( I also grew up there so that is nice too)

Ahohl - described the course well. In short If you are on the beach look to your right you will see an area where they load & unload people on boats and on the left there is the end of swim zone. If you come in one buoy from each (toward the center) and you swim down and back along the buoy line (doesn't matter which buoy line the close one or the farther out one) That is around 700 m or approx. 765 yards.

I try to get out there a few weekends through out to practice OWS. Maybe we can get a group out there to swim sometime. I have 1 or 2 ladies that join me when I do go out. Right now trying to plan a swim on Sunday July 5th (not early in the day) if anyone wants to join in.
