Subject: what to eat?
Hi folks!

I'll be participating in my first triathlon this weekend - a sprint. My question is - what should I be eating the 24 hours preceding the race? In particular, what should I eat the morning of the race? Start time is 9:00 AM.

Thanks!

Eat whatever you've been eating before your more difficult training sessions. "Nothing new on race day" should be extended to the day before as well.

Me, I try to eat pasta with a light sauce and some protein the night before, then two bagels with honey the morning of race day, at least three hours before start.

Last weekend, combination fajitas the night before. Yum!

Don't recommend BBQ. Did that the night before a race earlier this month, tasted it throughout the race.

What do you usually eat for breakfast? Nothing new on race day.

I eat my normal breakfast on the way to the race (2 hours before). Then I eat 1 gel about 30 minutes before the start of the race. All of that totals around 350 calories.

The night before, while I don't NEED pasta, I will eat it. Sometimes not. I also make sure I drink water and stay hydrated the day before. During my race I won't really drink much of anything.... 8 oz if that.

Just eat healthy and eat what your body is use to and you will be fine.

Good luck!

I chill at White Castle 'cause it's the best
But I'm fly at Fat Burger when I way out west

Or... eat a good lunch (I like pasta) the day before, a light dinner (familiar foods that you know you can digest well), then for breakfast eat whatever has been fueling you for morning workouts. I stick with PB, honey & banana on English muffin (Thomas'...for the crooks and nannies). And Joe...have to have the Joe so I can go.

If your race is Saturday the meal and the sleep that you get 2 night before (Thursday for Saturday races) have more of an impact than the meal and sleep the night before.  For your Thursday night meal you should try to get some good carbs and protein (Pasta w/chicken).  Something like that.  Nothing with a lot of spice.  Just some bland food to give you the energy that you need.

Dont get me wrong, the night before your race you should not run out and down 2 quarter pounders and fries but this meal has less of an impact.  You should still try to get a decent meal (pasta / carbs / Protein).

The day of the race, eat what you usually eat.  If that is a bagel w/cream cheese and you are used to that, go for it.  I would say away from stuff that you are not used to.  For me, I down a few bagels and peanut butter.  Good stuff.

Make sure you drink a lot of water the few days leading up to the race and in the AM.
