Subject: how do i train myself today?
Are there any ideas floating around on how to address the typical question of "What should i do today?".  I know this site offers a good way to create a training calendar for progression, but what about when someone is just looking for a workout to do that day?  What would that even look like?

It all depends on your goals? What are you training for?

That's exactly the conundrum.  If a person doesn't have an event to train for, wouldn't it be helpful if they were able to find a workout to do for their daily exercise?  Not at all a one-stop-shop, but something that addresses one of the aspects of triathlons and is available for the general audience so they can look at this website and say..."Holy crap, there is a lot going on here.  I wonder if there is a workout i can find to do today among all of this stuff."
It may be track repeaters, or a swim program, or a bike distance with an appropriate time to shoot for. Something like that that the everyday visitor can see easily and do.  I think it would make people feel like they were involved in a community where other people with similar intereste were doing the workout with them.  Then they could post later how it went and share times, distances, problems, successes.

You don't have to be training for an event. You could be training to lose weight, increase your running endurance, maintain your current overall fitness level, hone your swim technique, build core strength, increase your 20k time trial speed. The list is endless.

Without some idea of your current fitness level and some knowledge of what you're goals are, there's no way to recommend a workout for you other than something like "go for a run".

You don't need an event to have a goal.  Every workout has a goal.  The goal can be as specific as doing one arm swim drills to help work on breathing to your 'weak' breathing side, to as general as easy 30 minute recover run, or 60 minutes on the stationary bike while watching Oprah.  Once you define the goal for your workout, or series of workouts, it's much easier to determine what exactly you should be doing.
