Subject: RE: Hi from Philippines Welcome! I'm also based in Southeast Asia (Vietnam). FYI we have a thread for Asian triathletes on this site under "Other Countries Forums"--mostly about events in the region. There are lots of free training programs on the site, including a free one for HIM. I'm a long-time distance runner and swimmer but just started doing tris (sprints and Olympic distance) in the past year. I've downloaded the HIM program and think it's pretty solid--will probably use it next winter as I'd like to do my first HIM early next spring. There is also a forum on this site for Iron and half-iron distances, or you can just post inquiries on the general forum. It seems like the time you have is sufficient for most of the HIM program--I'm a teacher and I manage to get my workouts into similar time blocks. I save longer runs and rides and bricks for the weekends and use workdays for swimming, easy runs, run speedwork, and "power" workouts on the trainer that fit into 60-90 minutes. The bike is my weakest event; I've been using a program on this site (go to the Challenge forum and find "Jorge off-season training program"). Transitions I think are a matter of practice. And pretty much everyone feels sluggish when starting the run after biking! The run is my strongest event (currently about 20 min for 5K, 42 for 10K, 1:33 for HM), but I still struggle with how to balance effort between bike and run. Hopefully it's something that comes with experience! |
