Subject: Hi from Philippines
I started triathlon 2008 when i had my first road bike and found it more fun than plain running.Ive been though 5 sprint triathlons so far(7.5k swim, 30km bike, and 7.5 km run)best time on swim was 21 min., best time on bike was 58 min and run at 35 min. Also did an 2km open sea swim finished it at 43 min 44 sec. 2 full marathons best time at 4:43, several 21 kms with best time at 1:43minAnd now im training for my first half ironman on August 14, 2011 CamSur Phil.I work with the govt so my training time is really limited. Probably 1 hr in the morning and max of 1.5 hr at pm.I lagged at bike, quiet clumsy on transition and sluggish at the first 1-2km on the run.Any suggestion on the best training program to achieve 5-5:30 hr at half ironman is highly appreciated.Thanks Sorry for posting it here but don't have an idea yet to put this elsewhere.

Welcome! I'm also based in Southeast Asia (Vietnam).  FYI we have a thread for Asian triathletes on this site under "Other Countries Forums"--mostly about events in the region.  There are lots of free training programs on the site, including a free one for HIM. I'm a long-time distance runner and swimmer but just started doing tris (sprints and Olympic distance) in the past year.  I've downloaded the HIM program and think it's pretty solid--will probably use it next winter as I'd like to do my first HIM early next spring. There is also a forum on this site for Iron and half-iron distances, or you can just post inquiries on the general forum.

It seems like the time you have is sufficient for most of the HIM program--I'm a teacher and I manage to get my workouts into similar time blocks. I save longer runs and rides and bricks for the weekends and use workdays for swimming, easy runs, run speedwork, and "power" workouts on the trainer that fit into 60-90 minutes. The bike is my weakest event; I've been using a program on this site (go to the Challenge forum and find "Jorge off-season training program"). Transitions I think are a matter of practice. And pretty much everyone feels sluggish when starting the run after biking! The run is my strongest event (currently about 20 min for 5K, 42 for 10K, 1:33 for HM), but I still struggle with how to balance effort between bike and run. Hopefully it's something that comes with experience!

hi Gunds! Welcome to BT and triathlon. I too am one of the SEA BTers
