Subject: Question on usage

I've been a gold member for about 24 hours now and am getting very frustrated. The interface to import Garmin data is very questionable at best. I've tried to import my workouts for the last month and the interface to my 310XT works about 75% of the time and the 305 interface about 25%. When it hangs it requires shutting down explorer (8) and restarting, generally over and over again. I know we're supposed to use the times from the training plan but the mileages are a joke, it gives the mileage based on race times entered even when it's an endurance workout or warm-up. Now it won't let me log a workout for today, Explorer just crashes and asks if I'd like to restart the session, over and over and over again.

The training plans are very reasonably priced but at any price the site has to be useful.

Regarding the plans, do not go by mileage for the bike and runs - only time:

Mileage is only an approximation for figuring out routes for you workouts.  For the swims, you do want to hit your yardage.

For the Garmin issue, first make sure that you have the latest version of Garmin Communicator.

Also, make sure that you regularly delete old workouts from your devices. Having a large number of workouts stored sloows down the process of Communicator finding the workouts. This is the most common cause of what you're describing.

The 305 data can be deleted on the device itself, I typically recommend setting it to delete anything over 30 days old.

For the 310xt, Garmin Communicator pulls the files from the device and stores them in a folder on your PC. If the number of these files gets too large Communicator stalls. The fix is to reduce the number of files in that directory. If you want to save them, just move them to another folder. Just save the last few workouts.

In Win7 the files are located here:
C:\Users\computer username\AppData\Roaming\GARMIN\Devices\Device Number\History.

Windows Vista:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\GARMIN\Devices\device number\History

Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\GARMIN\Devices\device number\History

I'm not sure where they are ona Mac, but the directory names are similar.

Note that the folder names in italics are specific to your computer and Garmin device.

Thanks for the suggestions. Communicator is up to date and 310XT seems to be pretty reliable now, 305 still hangs but not that big of a deal.

I have had problems with communicator with both the 205 and the 305 that seemed to surface about 2 or 3 months before the units broke down. Frankly I think it is a problem with the unit or communicator or both as when I bought a new unit it worked fine (until it didn't).
