Pre-race routine:

I knew that I should have completed this RR sooner. I can't remember! I think that I ate a bowl of vector and I ate an Oatmeal to go bar before I started.
Event warmup:

Rode the course with Heather and Monica. Noticed that it was a bit hilly.
Bike
  • 1h 45m
  • 56 kms
  • 32.00 km/hr
Comments:

Stupid derailleur kept skipping out of the big ring.

The course was hilly. I and 5 other girls (including Connie & Monica-my teammate) got dropped coming up the hill on 59th Ave in the first lap. We worked together for a lap and then dropped two of the girls, so there were 4 of us. It was pretty exciting working in an eschelon with the girls again. Lots of people behind us. We passed a few guys as people just kept falling off of the lead pack.

With two laps to go, we picked up a guy who worked with us, but he maintained a blistering pace. So the pace picked up and I fell off on the uphill just before 58th Ave just before the bell lap. Arghh. Up the road I noticed that Monica was beginning to fall off too. I guess the guy we pick up was shredding apart our little group of women.

I worked really hard on the downhill and caught up with Monica. Gave her some of my gatorade. Then we decided we'd cross the finish line together. I had absolutely nothing left in my legs the last 2 times up the big hill and of course at the top was where the coach was watching. Going up the hill both those times my legs felt like they were on fire. It was seriously hard. So Connie managed to cross the line just before me. But it was good to finish this race.
What would you do differently?:

Stay with the lead pack!
Post race
Warm down:

South along Bradner Road and back.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hills!

Event comments:

Tough tough race. Everyone said so. When the Bs lapped me, David told me that they passed a lot of people before they passed me and he kept expecting to see me back there but was glad that it took them so long to pass me.

Course: The start line was different from the finish line. Rode south a couple of kilometres on Bradner Road to McTavish. This is where the finish line would be and made a left on McTavish. Course was east on McTavish pretty much downhill, then some windy roads with a little bit of an uphill around Taylor Road, then eventually turning right on 58th Avenue for a bit of an uphill. Then right on Bradner Road for some rolling hills the last of which is longer uphill than down, then right on McTavish to start the circuit again. 6 laps of 9km/lap.

How does the group thing work. In the US, it's categories. You start out as a 5 and some people move up. I think you need to move up to a B. Keep rocking and where is the new bike?

Our categories are the same as yours. Women only have 4 categories.

For non sanctioned races though, the organizers decide the categories. These are training races, so there are only 3 categories A, B and C. You seed yourself. I've notice that a lot of races at the track have only A, B and C categories as well.
