Subject: RE: Straight Razor Users? I can't recommend this enough. After some practice, it's not hard at all.
You can go to the Straight Razor Place website and there's a lot of information there. Alternatively, you can go with a hybrid where you use a safety razor to shave with and use the mug, soap, and brush to make your lather.
I did a straight for about a year and really liked it, but I can achieve close to the same thing with a safety razor and it takes less time; however, nothing beats a good straight razor shave.
I highly recommend the Geo. F. Trumper's Lime or Taylor of Old Bond Street' Grapefruit shaving soap, but there are a lot of scents from citrus to more earthy (sandalwood etc. )
The up front cost for a good straight from Dovo, a brush, mug, strop, and soap can be a little daunting, but it's much cheaper in the long run from buying the multi-razor Gillettes, etc. you can cut your cost by replacing the straight with the safety razor and you won't have to get a strop if you go that route.
Another added benefit is that you will generally have less skin irritation with a closer shave.
Edit: second added benefit - the nostalgic feel is really cool as well.
Let me know if you have any other specific questions - I'm happy to help.
