Member 34 southern pines | Subject: September White Lake Half??? For those who have done the White Lake Half how important or not are aero bars? Long story short I wrecked my own bike and am riding my wife's road bike. The fit is about the same but she does not have any aero bars on her bike. I train in a pretty hilly area so practicing with the bars is not something I would do on a day to day bases but if i'm going to race with them I'd like to get some clip ons a couple months out and get used to using them again. I've never raced at White lake. I know its flat but does the wind kick up or does it stay flat enough that a road bike will do just fine without the bars. I'm not looking to kill the bike course all I am hoping to go is between 19 and 20 mph. I also do not have that much experience racing with aero bars having only done one half with them a few years ago. Because of my location riding with aeros is not practical. Just to many ups and downs and not a lot of flats. Is it worth the expense or will I be fine without them? |

It's FLAT FLAT FLAT, but, there are some sections that can be windy. That being said, if it is windy out, you're better in aero anyways b/c it reduces your frontal profile. You'll be fine on a road bike, though. I saw tons of them out there the last few times I've raced there. |

Master 1741 Chapel Hill, NC | Subject: RE: September White Lake Half??? In case anyone is wondering, I recorded the temps on race day last two years: 2014, water was 79 degrees 2015, Thurs before race: "Water temperature: At 3:30pm on Thursday, September 10, 2015, the water temperature at White Lake was recorded at 84 degrees. With rain in the area over the next couple of days, we expect that this temp. could drop slightly by race day. An official reading will be taken on race morning." Saturday (Oly and Half races) 82 deg Sunday (Sprint race) 81 deg. |

They don't call it White Bake for nothing! :P See you ppl there in a month! |
