In general, yes, unless you are training for a half full Ironman (and even then, much of the time ), you would want to limit "brick" workouts (where you bike, then run immediately after ) to 1-2X a week, and the run can be as short as 15 minutes, no longer than 30. The goal is really just to get used to the feeling of running after being on the bike. With practice, most people can get into a comfortable running rhythm a bit faster than if they had not practiced that transition.
For most of your workouts, you want to focus on gradually building endurance with running, biking, and swimming. Most people rarely do all three sports in one day in training, and on days that you might do two different sports, there is no need to do the workouts back to back unless your schedule requires that. When I have double workouts, typically I do one in the morning before work, and one later, between work and dinner. I'm guessing that's probably true for most people who are working or have kids to get off to school, etc. |
