Master 1741 Chapel Hill, NC | Subject: RE: Garmin 50 BT upload I just got a Garmin 50, and am having trouble getting BT to find workouts. It passed the Garmin Connect test on the garmin site. But when I try to upload data to BT, I see the uploading status bar flash real quick, then it says no Run workouts found for such and such date. Anyone have success getting this unit working. I really really want time in zone data for my logs!!! |

Master 1741 Chapel Hill, NC | Subject: RE: Garmin 50 BT upload I don't see it putting the workout on any nearby date. It does upload the workouts to the Garmin Connect website with the correct dates, and I can get some nice HR graphs there and stuff. Really would like to have it work with BT tho, so I can see time in zone data. marmadaddy - 2009-07-18 6:30 AM It could be a date/time setting in your log. Master 1741 Chapel Hill, NC | Subject: RE: Garmin 50 BT upload Any hope of getting the Garmin 50 upload working? I needed a new HR monitor, and bought this watch based on reading this thread and also reading a Gear review saying that it works with the BT uploads. It doesn't work for me. Note to anybody else who might be wanting to upload basic HR data from a cheap watch. It doesn't work! keyone - 2009-07-18 11:20 AM I don't see it putting the workout on any nearby date. What we have to do is figure out what it is that's specific to your situation. Can you export a tcx file for recent workouts and email it to me? |

Master 1741 Chapel Hill, NC | Subject: RE: Garmin 50 BT upload Thanks, that's good news. Had to do some digging to figure out how to export a tcx file. I downloaded the Garmin Training center software and imported my workouts into that, then exported history. I will try to attach that to this post. I noticed that it is saving my workouts into the 'Other' category, not Run. On my watch display History, they say Run. marmadaddy - 2009-07-20 9:30 PM The upload does work with the Forerunner 50, we have a number of members who are successfully uploading workout data with that model. Master 1741 Chapel Hill, NC | Subject: RE: Garmin 50 BT upload Thanks. Been googling and RTFMing, and I don't see any way to change the Sport mode in the Garmin 50. Do you know if a footpod is required for the watch to know you are running? In the History, it does show them as Runs. Grrr! marmadaddy - 2009-07-20 11:03 PM keyone - 2009-07-20 10:11 PM ... Master 1741 Chapel Hill, NC | Subject: RE: Garmin 50 BT upload PS: I was able to get the workout to upload to my BT log by going in and manually editing the xml code in the tcx files (located in C:\Users\Carol\AppData\Roaming\GARMIN\Devices\somebiglongnumber\History) I just changed Activity Sport="Other" to Activity Sport="Biking" or Activity Sport="Running" At least I have a workaround till I figure out how to fix. keyone - 2009-07-21 7:27 AM Thanks. Master 1741 Chapel Hill, NC | Subject: RE: Garmin 50 BT upload I found this out from the Garmin forums: "FR50 activities without foot pod or GSC10 data are categorized as other in Training Center. So your heart rate only workouts will always be listed as "Other."" FYI, in case anybody else has this device. I did order the GCS10 bike cadence thing. So that should help me with the Bike workouts. Not sure I want to spend $$ on the footpod, so I will just have to manually edit the tcx files for my run workouts. Not a huge deal, just inconvenient! |

I just tried searching for tcx and *.tcx and did not find them. I know they are there, tho! If you have Vista, try navigating to this folder. Replace Carol with your own windows username, of course! Champion 11641 Fairport, NY | Subject: RE: Garmin 50 BT upload It sounds like Garmin made a change with the last Communicator that is incompatible with our workout uploading design, but I have an idea. If all activities from the 50 are going to be classified as 'other' then we need to override the workout type somehow. The way it currently works, when you click on 'Upload From Garmin' we look at the workouts on the selected device and make a list of any that match the Date and Sport. The problem here is the Sport doesn't match. What we could do is put in a test for a Forerunner 50 and just put all workouts for that date in the list. This could also be useful in the case of workouts recorded as the wrong sport on other devices. Maybe I could add a checkbox saying something like "Include All workouts on this date", so if a Bike gets accidentally recorded as a run, we could override it and log it anyway. This would also solve the problem some people have with other devices of recording workouts as the wrong sport. It's easy to do, I've done it myself. Or, alternatively, we could just list all workouts on a given date and upload it as the selected sport no matter what it's recorded as. Thoughts? |

How about something like this? C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Garmin\Devices\DevixeXXX\Totals. Or, right after uploading a workout via the ANT connection, try searching for files by date, created today and see if you can find the tcx files. Wish I could be more help! |

It sucks that you can't upload to BT. I am really enjoying it. I got the bike cadence thing, and that saves my workouts as Bike. So, now I only have to edit my run workout tcx files. I made a shortcut on my desktop to that folder, so it's really not a big deal. I was trying to think how else you can fix your problem. Maybe try downloading and installing the Garmin Training Center software. Then upload your workouts into that, edit them to be run or bike, and export the tcx files from there. That would be a major pain, tho! Maybe just installing that program will help you find where your computer is storing the tcx files, tho?? The other thing you can do is switch to Buckeyeoutdoors.com for your workout log. I don't like it as well as BT, but might be better for you. To upload Garmin data to Buckeye, you'll need to download and install Sports Tracks software. It is free. |
