In. Any advice for a first timer? (to chicago marathon...did Milwaukee last year and learned the marathon starts at mile 20). Training going great this summer so far.
I'm only a second timer this time ![](https://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/images/emoticons/smile.gif) , so my piece of advice is very humble, I can just tell you what works for me
I run/walk (Galloway method ), so my training plan incorporates the whole 26 miles as one of the training runs. A lot of people who run only feel that running 26 in training will create too long a recovery, but when you slow down your LR and incorporate walk breaks, there ISN'T a recovery period. I did my first marathon in May (Champaign ), and both after the 26 mile training run and the marathon, I was on my feet all day the next day, just a little sore.
So, if you are able to get in a longer than 20 mile run, very important-at a slower pace (to prevent injury ), do it. They say the Wall comes at your longest distance covered (we never hit it in Champaign, btw ). How long was your longest run before Milwaukee? Edited by Lyoshka 2010-08-26 8:46 AM
