This challenge began in January with people who had competed in the December Swim Challenge. Our challenge to each other was to add 10% to our goal from the previous month. If you made your goal - you moved on. If you failed to make your goal - you did not.

Here we go folks....

You're welcome. It was this challenge that pushed me to get out of bed to go for a swim this morning. February will be tougher to meet my goal (fewer days and more meters). Good luck!

I guess I'm in by default. Swimming is not a priority this month but it will be interesting to see if I can actually hit my goal without really trying.

Yep - no quitters allowed! I understand though that extra distance each month does not always equate to faster swim times and we don't want our swim training to affect our running or biking training or our personal lives either.

The distance is not really the problem - I did twice that last May. It's juggling my priorities, finding time to get it all done without making dumb decisions for the sake of glory.

Whew! Just for fun I pushed the numbers out a year or two.
Granted, the formula I used was rounding up to even 50's, but still ... ouch.

Cell at A2 "= CEILING( A1 * 1.1, 50)" and copied A2 down the column.

Updated spreadsheet February 5th so if anyone logged a swim today (Sunday) then your total may appear farther ahead of pace than it really is (as pace was based on Saturday results).

Carry on.

Hit the pool.  It feels great to get into the pool and just float there and stretch out the stresses that you have accumulate during the day.

Hey,

The chatter is quite on this thread. Is everbody out with a cold or out running or something.  It will be very quite next month when I am the only one left swimming. I know that Steve was down-and-out for the count with a cold and other things, but were is everybody else.

Yes, it has been quiet indeed. I started wondering if I somehow got unsubscribed to this thread. I've been hitting the pool pretty well so far - 5900 out of 15,000 yds. I might slow down a little as I take some time later this month to focus a lot more on drills, but I'll still hit my goal.

Let's go everybody!!! Swim, swim, swim!!

I'm so busy swimming (and running for the run challenge) that I forget to get on the thread and post!!!  Already swam once today and going back for more punishment at a Masters swim tonight!

I'm still here! Just got back from a swim this morning too. I'm also on track to make my distance this month. That will be my second biggest swim month, ever, and next month will be breaking new ground for me if I can do it. I'm in the run challenge as well and with the warm weather I've started getting the bike out more so I may have to bow out soon. Not this month though!

Dwayne,     Looks like you are getting some nice warm weather to run in.  Do you run during the day or later at night.   When the temps warm up here the snow and ice melt during the day but then refreeze at night making it hard to find a good safe running route. I have no running base and don't want to get injured doing something stupid. Hopefully I will be able to start running outside in March.

It's great that you can ride to work.  And even better that you can go home for lunch... what a bonus.

Keep swimming.  From your logs it looks like you are making progress in the pool.

I'm at 9000 yards toward my 21,120 goal and plan to swim again tomorrow morning while my daughter is in her swim practice.  I'm in the Run Challenge, too, so I haven't even looked at a bike this month!

Thanks Mike. I'm usually running early mornings or late afternoons after work but got delayed last night and had to run late. It's been pretty dry out here this year so there's only a trace of snow and ice left right now. The pathways are bare and dry. If you've got lots of ice there though, waiting to get outside is a good idea. I'd offer encouragement for your swimming but it looks like you're already doing pretty well at that. Keep it up, and take care.

Swam my longest yardage ever this morning - 2600!!  I know for some of  you fish that is just a warmup - but for me it is a milestone.  Being in this challenge sure is motivating - I think I'm going to blow this months goal out of the water (pun intended).

What if you did it in December but did not particapate in January, Can We join up in Feb?

I think we discussed this back in January and it was okay so long as you multiplied your December Goal (16000 yards) by 1.10 to get what your January goal would have been (17,600 yards) multiplied by 1.10 to get your February goal (19,360 yards).

Are you up for 19,360 yards this month?

Good job in the pool Kim.

I'm sitting at 50% of my distance with 12100m completed. Swimming tonight (Tuesdays) and Thursday this week.  Hoping to get 2800m-3200m in each night depending on the swim set the coach puts together. I do well as long as there is not too many kicking sets. I am really bad at kicking. My 6 year old daughter can kick faster than I can.

Hit the pool and swim swim swim.
