Subject: Anyone recommend me a book to read?

I've read all Wilbur Smith, John Grisham and his type and doing it for me anymore, autobiographies usually result in me disliking the person I'm reading about and I've read my two triathlon training manuals cover to cover several times recently. I got so desperate I cracked open a couple of my old text books on Corporate Strategy the other day!!

Anyone read anything decent? I don’t care what it's about or how intellectually stimulating it was - I just want to read a good old fashioned good book.

Ps, if you haven't read any Wilbur Smith, read him, read him now!!

I third Into Thin Air. Great read.

I'm really enjoying the series by George R R Martin:

A Game of Thrones
A Clash of Kings
A Storm of Swords
A Feast for Crows

I'm not much of a fantasy genre reader, but I really like the way he pulls no punches.

Into Thin Air -

Paddle to The Amazon - Don Starkell.  True story of a 12,000 mile canoe trip.

I just finished Dan Browns - Angels and Demons.  I enjoyed this even more than his Davinci Code.

If you liked Into Thin Air, try:

The Last Season  or  Between a Rock and a Hard Place  or  Men of Salt
(Haley, you'd love Men of Salt...)

If you prefer fiction, try:

Peace Like a River

The Devil in White City by Erik Larson

Marley and Me by John Grogan

Wicked by Gregory McQuire

Three totally different books, but all great "sit on the couch and read all day" kind of books

Anything written by J.M. Coetzee

I second the recommendation for David Sedaris. My favorite is Holidays On Ice.

The Freedom of the Hills

The Adventurist - Robert Pelton

The Culture Warrior - Bill O'Rielly

Its always fun to read different interpretations of the same story...

so, Into Thin Air and then, The Climb

same tragedy...different perspectives VERY interesting....

Pirate by Ted Bell

The book is not actually about pirates but more of a james bond type thriller.
