3 months out, and I'm starting to get excited!  How's everybody's training going?

I've been wondering where this thread was...

Training's going well! I started doing group rides with my LBS because they're all faster than me and it really pushes me, and I have my first long brick (4 hr / 30 min) this weekend so things are already shaping up nicely.

Training is progressing as planned... with NOLA 70.3 this weekend, the racing bug has definitely sunk it's teeth in deep and I am really amped for our race...  BSLT will be a mid-season measure for IMFL for me, so I am double excited...  Good luck, healthy training, and great racing to ALL!

I just made the switch from my HIM training to IM training - guess I need to go back and make sure I get enough bricks in during the weekend to make up for the race simulation. I'm trying to get in some hill repeats as I remember my heart coming out of my chest 3 peddles out of transition during the sprint tri up there!

What is the longest brick you folks are getting up to?

The coached IM plan I am following uses time and HR zones right now... This past Saturday was a 240 minute moderate spin ride (HR zone 2 - 3) [ended up w/ 67.20 miles] followed immeadiately by a 30 minute trainsition run (HR zone 2 - 3) [ended up w/ 3.40 miles]

This plan has weekly increases of about 10 minutes on the bike and 5 minutes on the run, so far.

Just finished the N.O. 70.3 and I can't wait for BSLT.  It's going to be a blast.  I'm going to start training more hills though so I don't get murdered out there.

Mike, Welcome to BT!  A brick is two events done back to back in the same workout.  For example,  that guy w/ the dog avatar up there ^^^^...he'll go like 500 miles on his bike then immediately after this ride run 80 miles...all in an hour.  Me, I'll be lucky to ride 20 then run 3 in 2 hours during my training for Buffalo Springs.

check this out for more.

Feel free to fire more questions off, just make sure you are asking them on the right forum in order to get the most feedback...and start using your logs!!!!  Good luck brother.

Thanks for the reply ,

So let me get this straight. I'm doing a brick if I go out work out by maybe...swimming then riding my bike right after or any combination of the three sports? If this is so, I've been doing bricks since I started training, althought I don't go ride 500 miles then run 80 miles in an hour. I go swim maybe 1200 meters then go ride 20-30 miles or (since I can't run) walk 5-7 1/2 miles, any of the 3. Did I get this right or am I still way off?

Mike ~ you are on track... Typically you have swim/bike bricks and bike/run bricks.  The object is to train your body to adapt to the cahges that tri's present.  You can feel a little different coming out of the water then on to the bike and likewise from the bike to run.  The most common of these training sessions is the Bike to Run... or Bike Run...ick!

And let me just say... John (fattyfatfat) ~ is stretching the limits a little, I do those said bricks in 1.5 hrs... lol!  a good bike/run brick is 20mile ride followed immeadiately by a 2, 3 or 4 mile run.  Or if you are not into milage ~ 60 minute ride, 20 minute run...

And work your way up.... 3-4 hr ride followed by a 2 hr run (And crush Fatty's dreams! on the race course!)

I am just the opposite... I really wanna take on Alcatraz!  The swim and the sand stairs... I hurt just thinking about it!

Good luck to ya!

About 4 weeks out.  How's everyone doing?

BSLT is a 'B' race for me so only 1 week of taper.  I have 3 weeks of IM training then a recovery week and then BSLT.  My training is going well.  I'm really looking forward to doing this race.  This will be my fourth time racing at BSLT.

I'm so excited!  I ran/rode/swam the course a couple of weeks ago, and it's not NEARLY as bad as everyone had made it out to be.  Yeah it's challenging, but I'm more excited than nervous now : )  I can't believe it's only a month away!!  Where is everyone staying for this one anyways?

Was it hot and windy?  I've heard that's part of what makes this race so tough is the temps/sun and the wind..... but that's just what I've heard. No first hand experience with the course.

Yes all those things make BS tough and they're always there. One other thing, the hills aren't short , they're long and some are steep. Well, for me they are... I haven't been doing this long. ...Good luck!!!

The few times I've ridden the course it HAS been windy, but definitely not the worst I've seen.  It can get really hot, but at least it's DRY heat.  And then you have the wind to cool you down : D

I don't think I could do the camping thing before a race.  I have a hard enough time keeping it together when I'm at home for a local race.   good luck with that though.   20 days to go.  I can't wait.  Hill repeats tomorrow. oh yeah!

Any thoughts on a cooling strategy for the run?  Since I've stopped dumping water on my head (too much ends in my socks and causes blisters) I've got nothin'

If they have ice at the aide stations put it in your shirt and shorts. That really helped at Prairie Man in the heat.
