So just from lurking I see how competitive registering for a full IM is, as in either show up or look for a new one, etc.

Is it the same for HIMs?  Do I need to be at the ready when they open registration? Or generally speaking do I have some time before I drop the dough?

I'd be referring in this instance to specifically Boise, which is slated for next June 13th, start time 2:00 p.m.

(after much moaning about the late start time, I fig'd ah, go for it, I actually might get a good night sleep before my first ever HIM )

Agreed ^^^

Several 70.3 races I have seen are not the kind that fill up the day of the current year race like most IM's. As stated above, depending on the race you might have a few weeks, months, etc...

If you find a smaller HIM race, you can sign up for it about a month ahead of time.

FYI, an email from IM shows registration opens up Sept 1 at Noon for Boise (and IMKY and RI 70.3) price will be $210 til the end of the year.

You should have plenty of time to sign up for Boise. Of course why not just put the pressure on yourself as soon as possible and lock up a spot.

Rottie, just saw your post, that's eggsackly what I intend to do.  I suffer from an affliction that once I tell everyone I'm doing something, short of complete incapacitation, I must do it.

One of these fine days we'll have to meet up to train!
