Subject: co2 to Cancun 70.3?
Does anyone have any tips on getting your co2 cartridges to races when traveling out of the country by air?? I just got an e-mail stating that the expo at Cancun 70.3 has sold out the last 2 years because you cannot fly with them (airport security will confiscate). Has anyone had this problem? what solutions have you come up with? What about supplements.. hate to travel with a big jug, but surely don't want to put a few scoops of powder (protein, drink etc) in a smaller container only to have to explain it at airline security because it looks suspicious... your thoughts????

When I travelled to races, I always packed my CO2 cannisters with my bike and it got shipped by Tri Bike Transport. Depending on how your shipping your bike, you may or may not have issues with "Compressed Gas" included with your gear.

Might want to check with the airline to see if there is away to bring them along and also contact the company your shipping your bike with to see if they can accept it.

they definitely ran out of CO2 last year, hence you could ship some to your hotel just in case. I also have travelled with CO2 and didn't have an issue, I totally forgot I had them in my bike repair kit bag and when I got to my destination I realized I had them so you can also pack them with your bike case and risk that they might take'em away or not. In terms of supplements I always travel with some scoops of my favorite sports drink (heed) on a zip bag and in another salt pills, etc. I've never had an issue at the airport about it ever.

See ya on Cancun

Thanks for all the advice. We're planning to check the bikes with the airline, so we'll just have to see what happens. But I definitely think we'll ship ourselves some as well just in case. And maybe I'll just pack an old fashioned frame mount hand pump. We've become so enabled with the convenience of CO2, that the thought of an actual pump didn't even occur to us.

We had a bunch of people 'forget' to take them out of their saddle bag on a recent trip to Europe.  They had no problems.
